Ah ..... nostalgia, rose-coloured-spectacles and old age .... a heady cocktail. I can smell the Castrol now !!
Go for it Ray. If I have funds I'll be tempted too - and in white (could always chuck a paint can at it I suppose). I love my VStrom1000 for exactly the reasons you've outlined, especially two-up, and I'm expecting this to be a better version, albeit a parallel twin. It's going to be at the Drtmund bike show next week, so I'll take a look and sit and ask questions, then report back. |

1) delivery time and method due to online ordering being the only apparent option this year. 2) can the ABS be turned off. (just for fun - they are a real life saver on a big bike) 3) what are the traction control options and their effects. 4) what are the throttle modes "D MODE", T and S. 5) how much protection is there for the front and rear suspension from dirt. (the GSAs electronic one is ridiculously exposed and about 1200 to replace) Sorry...long list but I do not know when we will get to see one in the UK and I would like to place an order. I'm trying to talk SWAMBO into riding to Dortmund.....:eusa_whistle: |
Hi Ray.
Yes, of course I will - all of them. Here's the link if you want to take a look at the show and are considering going www.zweiradmessen.de Click on the brochure looking thing that shows the Dortmund show, then, on the right is a menu including 'exhibition outlook', this shos the Super Ten. From what I can see, they're calling it the 'World Premier', scheduled for 10.00 on Thursday. I'm not clear if this is a public day, but I'll ring tommorrow and ask. I also want to be sure it will be there. It also seems to suggest that pre-booked tickets have gone, but that there are plenty available 'at the door'. Again, I'll check. Not sure when I'm going yet, but will have a think, depending on what I find out tommorrow. |
Hey, Ray! Good choice, congrats in advance! On your first question:
the Super Tenere can be ordered as of beginning March, only online and first one swill be delivered as of May(this is what my dealer told me). Me, myself am not interested in buying the S10, 'cause I'm completely happy with my 660Tenere; but like I said in another thread, I was invited to come along to the official dealer presentation of the S10 at YamahaNL Headquarters in Schiphol, March 22nd. And I'm also goin' to the Dortmund Bikeshow( www.zweiradmessen.de) next week. Although it's a big bike, I think it'll be a great allroad touring bike, competitive to the GS, Tiger, Stelvio and such. Greetz, Hans. |
Just a thought... I wonder if there will be a TDM version? That would make more sense, given the size of the thing, and it would go great in the garage alongside my Z... hmmmm? It would have to be a darn sight cheaper too though, under 10k would do it...

Just confirmed with the show organisers for Dortmund:
- show runs for public and trade from Thursday to Sunday, 09.00 till 18.00 (20.00 Friday). - no problem with buying tickets on the day, at 12 Euros daily - Super Tenere will definately be there (spoke to the guy Thomas who is doing the introduction) and premiered to public and press at 10.00 on Thursday. Weather forecast looks ok, dry with temps of around 3 - 5c. |

Thanks anyway Loopydog. I found a very bad initial review over on the UK GS website - UKGSer (who needless to say are giving the bike the thumbs down), here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBMEr...layer_embedded Enjoy...as best you can !! Edit: and a bit of a story from the same dork I think http://www.gizmag.com/yamaha-super-t...cations/14310/ |
Hell fire, that guy is annoying.... Sorry, couldn't listen to the whole thing,
What kind of advanced rider would hit the rear brake first...... I loved the linked brakes on the Honda, until I got on a bike without them, now I wouldn't have a bike with linked brakes. Don't get me wrong, they are safe, but they take so much rider intervention away you loose the skill to actually control a bke without them. Then again I'm not a fan of driver aids, I suppose that's why I like the 660Z so much. Ray - I think this bike will suit your needs perfectly, my gripe with the bike is Yamaha's hype and the let down feeling, then the price.... It's subjective, but in your case, and for your needs I think you are right to consider the bike - perfect for 2-up riding over long distances. I'm actually coming around to the bike, I think they will sell loads of them (not least becasue of the limited numbers) and I think we'll see more 2nd hand GS's at the Yamaha dealers when these bikes hit the showrooms. It is there to get a slice of the GS market, and I think it will. I also think we'll see a price reduction into next year, or maybe some dealer support from Yamaha to give better trade in prices (especialy on BMUU's), or wider 0% finance, or 'adventure packs' thrown in - either way I think Yamaha will do something to make this bike more affordable in the 2nd and 3rd years. I reckon the blue will be a 1st year only colour to help keep the residuals hight. I will certainly have a go on one if I get the changes, I've already been promised a ride on the Multistrada form the newest Ducatti Dealer in the North, when the demonstrator hits the road in the Spring so it will be a nice comparison. Will I buy one? Dunno, something in the 'big' adventure range would be a better tourer (for me and the missis) than the XJR, and if it has 'fun' inbuilt then possibly.... |
