Blimey, I hope that little lot won't be too back heavy! Mind you the charcoal is not that heavy. Don't forget that I used my pillion rest to support the charcoal bags and then just bungeed them to the frame. Didn't budge a bit. Will be good to see a dummy 'load up'! Look pretty strong though when most of the Xt crowd are going for 'weight' off. Irrespective you will have loads of carrying capacity. Cannot wait for more updates. If we can get rid of some of this snow perhaps a dummy run before the Dragon. I know of a very nice little pub in Wetton (North of Ashbourne) with camping behind, will check it out.

Hi Steve,
it doesnt weigh much really mate as it is tube and not solid bar. I did perhaps go a bit O.T.T. with the tube i bought and could have got one with a thinner wall. But that is all they had at my local Steel stock holder. I think the they should be ok as the stuffa bags they are designed to carry are more bulk than weight. I want a couple of those plastic tool tubes that i have seen on here, to fix to the inside of the rails if anyone knows of where to get them over here? As i have only seen them from tractor retailers in the States!! I am up for a camping trip whenever you are ready mate, have got nearly all my stuff sorted now, just got to sort out how to get it all on the bike with the most ease, Have bought a new tent, army sleeping bag system, 2 stoves (got rid of the crap coleman thing that let me down in Wales.) Pocho, tarp, camp bed to get me off the floor, water carrier, new pots and pans, thermals, Hein Gerricke Tuareg trousers, (still looking for a jacket as they have stopped selling them new and i need a XXXL) You will have to let me have your mobile number Via PM so we can sort something out with the camping. Speak soon mate have have a great Christmas and New Year...... Crusty |
That sounds great. I am trying to get in touch with Nick who has those really nice Tool Tubes like the one that I have, I know he has a box full. I will contact a few places half way between us and see waht I can come up with. I am not so sure about a camp bed as it will eventually destroy the ground sheet in the tent. Did you get one the same as mine?
We need pics of a dummy load! ..............and leave room for the pickled eggs:pjrlaugh_61OD3G: |
Hi Steve,
have dropped of the rails at the powder coaters and have to ring tomorrow to see if they can get them done before they shut for Xmas. If not i wont get them back till the New Year!!! :( I have bought a Kyham sherpa tent as this has a bit on the end for cooking/sitting round the Bar-B. I have got one of the canvas camp beds that you have to fight like a ***** to get the legs to fit, (should keep me fit...) and was going to use a mat under the legs to save the groundsheet. Tim with the beemer who was at Wales the other week was using the same setup and as i already had the bed i thought i would give it a go. If not i will get a roll mat. Let me know if you get anything sorted mate, i will be there, pannier rails or not!! (will be a big pile of stuffa bags bungeed to the back of the bike........) Mark |

Alright TCC, how low do they sit? Will there be any problems in bends? The camera angle makes it look like they come down by the spindle.
|
Was thinking that meself, won't take much to ground them out, I know of one wild spirit on here that has decked his panniers. Though is difficult to tell from the photos.

Have got them back from the powder coaters and they look good, even if i do say so myself. As to height off the ground, they are further away from the floor than there is travel in the rear wheel before it hits the bottom of the mudguard. As to cornering i must admit i had forgetten about the lean angle of the bike. I will fit them on and get the back of the bike fitted back up then take some more pictures. If they look like they are still to low i can grind the hooks off then weld some more on lower down , which will bring the ride height up. Just have to get them power coated AGAIN.... Doh!!!
Well spotted guys, Any other sugestions for fine tuning? Crusty |
