just did it!!!
So i did it...got myself a Stage 1 and Stage 2 DNA filter from FREEZE at very pretty price (thanx Freeze), took the seat off, took the side cover of the airbox off, took battery out (just for the fun to see how much space there is, pulled the snorkel out , now what now....
The stage 1 filter that slides into place is no problem , that is done. I personally feel that the snorkel is there for a reason, seems to me that gaining 0.3HP does not justify removing it, will not make a diffrence for me who is not racing the XT in the Dakar. Ok , so stage 2 filter...is there a fastening device for this, can i use the screws from the original cover, the rubber housing of the filter seems a bit flimsy. I have a 2008 XTR. A while ago there was some speculation about what to do with air and Co settings. I do not have money for a PC, and there is no nneed for the Lambda sensor thingy for this model, it has the sensor on the exhaust already. Suggestions for CO setting after both filter changes? Anything else? GB |
ok, i see according to instruction on DNA filter, i can use stock bolts to secure...
And then inportant message : Fuel injection recalibration is absolutely necessary. There is nothing to be done if i dont fit a PC or similar product, except changing CO. The bike compensates for itself for the increase in air doesn't it...(that is what i have heard from local bike mechanic) Oh!!!, and i just heard that importers of DNA filters into South Africa stopped doing it..where do i get the cleaning and re-oiling kit without being robbed in daylight??. i hear it is expensive excersise if you clean these filters often...(i ride alot of dusty and muddy roads, so cleaing intervals will be short) GB |
answers found
Ok, seems that i have found alot of answers from more searching on forum. Got alot of my own q's answered.
Please confirm: 1)CO setting needs to be upped by 5-10 settings,--how will i know what setting to use (some say 2., some say up to 10), or is best thing to take for dynotune and just make sure it does not run too rich ? Not fitting a PC ..yet... 2) Is there a easy way of rerouting the wires that ran ontop of the place where the snorkel used to be?...would love to use this empty space for some tools or accesories for long distance trips. Some pics of anyone who did this if available? 3) I see some nice alluminium frames for the stage 2 filters...will ask someone to lasercut something for me too... Cheers GB |
:WellDone_OROQR1:Gee you answered your own questions within a half an hour.

Thanx Kev, worked like a bomb, moved it up by 5 for now, will have to play around a bit, cannot really feel difference between 5 and 6, and have to take for long ride once it is fully warmed up, then only i should probably "feel" it.
Just a photo of the shorty snorkel.Atttached |
