Need some help please. I have a 1995 Tenere and would like to do the K&N stage 1 and DNA stage 2 but see the stage two cover is different on the Tenere to the 660X/R. Is there a way around this? I have sent an email to DNA asking if they have a stage 2 for the 1995 Tenere but have had no response.
Many thanks

The free area of the filter would be more relavent than the filter area wouldn't it?

Mine has Staintunes, DNA stage 2 and a PC.

I just removed the snorkel and de-screened the filter.
The motor is smoother at light throttle and is getting better economy.

Anyone else tried de-screening the filter?

Just remember the steal screen is there for back fires or poping back through the throttle body, so the paper filter does not catch on fire.

To answer your question yes I have tried this mod, you would have even better gains in adding a stage 1 & 2 filters.

I accecpt entirely that the stage 1 filter would be preferable, but a 4 times the cost of a std replacement didn't feel it justified.

Were that to happen (back fire) wouldn't it be a bigger problem if you had an oil soaked cotton filter sitting there?

My point being is that surely this would be a very very rare event would it not?

You asked the question & I was only telling you what I know. If you read on I did say I have run this set up on my bike.

At least you have been told the facts why they fit a steal screen in 99% of motorcycle air boxes. It is totally up you if you want to remove the metal screen.

Yeah, that's all good. I'm no mechanic so was just trying to get a handle on the probability and significance of a problem.
Not questioning or disputing the answer or nothing.

No worries, only trying to help with the facts.

The K&N main filter is serviceable so you never have to replace them, you must take that in to the costing. I am still running both my filters since 2005. The best gain filter by far is the stage 2 filter, try & save for one of those, they are worth the money AUD100.00.

Do I just pull the snorkel off ? There have been no pictures since I joined and no written instructions to follow. :076:

Denny 10-02-09 20:02

Yes moffman, just pull it out. Don't worry you won't break anything, just give it a wiggle while pulling.
