I would be interested in both too.

Ok, some updates....

I made some paper templates just to get a feeling how the size would be.
And of course I would like to know what you guys think!

I'm quite satisfied with the small size plate!
But with the bigger one, well.... I dont know. It feels... VERY large! But very much luggage space though! :)
What do you think, is that size good or should it be smaller... like half of the size and no mounting points in the front instead? That would be easier to mount, and little more space behind your back. But there would be smaller luggage space and not as stable if there's no mounting points in the front of the extender....

Will the seat still come off with the extended plate?:tongue3:

What sought of coating will they have? Paint or black anodizing. I'm not to keen on the large plate but do like the look of the small plate. Would you ship to Australia?

Uhm.... well.... Yes, if you take the plate off! :D
No, actually I dont really know yet! :) That depends on what distance's you are using! But that's a good point, and something I will look into.

They will be anodized.... and yes I will ship to wherever you want. As long as you pay for the shipping fees. :)

Okay, now you gonna be tired of me... But I have made another model of extension plate that is a little smaller. I didn't like the look of the longer extension plate, and it would also be a little more work to mount it because of the distance's you have to mount on the grab handles....
This smaller extension, would ONLY be mounted on top of the smaller plate. And would still be strong enough to not have any mounting points in the front of it. It would also (as steveD pointed) be easier to get the seat off even with the extension plate on.
It would be about double the size than the smaller plate...

What do you think? Is it big enough? Better or worse than the first extension plate? Any thoughts about this?

Rack with big extension + mounting points.
Love the look of the rack and extension off the bike but would be concerned about the extension when on the bike - as mentioned above (backside and an off etc). Maybe I worry too much.

Big extension is not needed, Drybag sits ok on the back seat as well. Looks of it is also a little weird. Do not expect a lot of orders.
But I think small plate is interesting.
Since I see you like doing stuff for Tenere think about other things to build instead of extended top plate.

By now, no company builded a good skid plate, thats why I made it on my own.
Mine is light, and cowers water pump without extra steel tube pipes.
And for my its the best lookin of them all.
If you construct such plate for a bit better price I think you would have orders. I can help you with design if you like.

There are some more stuff you can do better that some companies and for smart price, like handlebar risers that also puts bar a bit forward not only upwards (and with that backwards, since the angle of forks is like so)
After that you loose clearence on dashboard, so you can make dash board extensions ( there are only two bolts that holds dashboard, mask and light), to put front mask a bit forward, and a bit more vertical. I believe that would make better windflow and would give more clearence, to put handlebar up and more forward, so better riding position and control if you ride standing alot. I did not do that yet because than turn signal plastics would have to be adjusted. Poliester made new panels that would fit between new position of mask and gasoline reservoir.

I hope this makes any sense, otherwise I can put some extra effort and show the idea in some pictures...

I see, you want to make foot pegs... I ride in standing postition most of the time, that means there is need of longer and especially wider pegs, so weight is distributed on bigger surface, that makes riding in standing position less "painfull".

There is more... but... step by step.

Bash guard is a nice option!

Ni3ous:
Thanks for your good ideas, I mainly do stuff that I myself need. Thats why I do much things for the Tenere. :)

I already have a bash plate so thats not my number one priority, but it could be good winter project. So if you have any good design ideas let me know. Thats nice bash guard you made yourself! Big and good protection for the engine. I really like it!

Handlebar risers is an upcoming project, I already have som ideas and models about that. You will notice further on... :)

If you have any ideas or images you would like to share please PM me or send mail to info@xphase.se.

About the dashboard I didn't really understand what you mean....

I think I will go with the smaller extension plate because of my own needs and the easier way to mount it.

Metzy 03-09-12 04:59

How about a mount for the bar above the speedo to mount a GPS. Maybe a aluminum block that you can screw a threaded ram mount ball into. The bar is 12mm in diameter and the smallest the ram mounts go down to is for 13mm round bar. Screw in threaded ram mount ball link
