Yes you can, although what are you changing from to think that the TR91's will be better for winter?

I have tkc's80 on at the moment but just want the best road tyres for the xtz with the best mileage so anyone who knows of such a tyre would be great.

Cheers

I have been using the TR91 for a trip and it was great. Particularly in the wet and on damp roads. But at 4500 miles the rear was knackered. The price you pay for grip.
Its purely a road tyre so if you are thinking of driving in snow and the like forget it.

Shinko 705....... most under rated tyre for road and off road...
And they grip on the dirt better than they have any right to with that tread patten...

Just something to think about....

More Mileage = Harder Compound

Harder Compound = Less Grip

For winter, you want more grip and a softer compound

Honestly, the TKC's are probably the best tyre for the winter. They are every bit as good as most road tyres, you won't suffer from aquaplaning, they have more grip in the snow, more grip on heavily gritted roads.

Bear in mind that non-winter tyres stop being fully effective when the temp falls below 7c. TKC's are the closest tyre you can get over here to a winter tyre.

Yes, you trade grip for miles.... but can you put a cost on your life ?

Then again, it's your choice, not mine.

How longs a peice of string?

Every member of this forum could put the same tyres on their bike and get different mileage from them, it depends on riding style and terrain.

I cant get anything like the mileage out of my tyres that others do as my 300 mile a week commute is usually a completely unhinged last minute dash to work through heavy traffic, whereas someone who rides more sedately on faster roads without stop start will treble their miles per tyre.

Also your definition of "the best road tyre" will differ to others.

As Darren has already mentioned a softer compound will give better grip but less mileage, you will never get a tyre that sticks like poo to a blanket and lasts forever.

It's a very hard thing to gauge and in my experience the only way to truly find out what works for you personally is to try things yourself.

I realise this doesnt answer your question but hopefully you'll understand the point I'm making.

Really I have idea... I ride 50/50 seal/gravel/dirt so
would get more Ks than a bike used as a commuter..
I buy tyres to do a job..replace them when worn out...

If I had to put a number on it.... 6000/7000k..
they are quite a bit cheaper than the known brands of
this type/style of tyre...

PS....Shinko use to be Yokohama... they rebranded for some reason..

I've not tried the dunlops, but have tried:
Road bias tyres-
Siracs
Battlewings
Scorpion Trail
Of which I thought the Pirellis were best

Off road bias-
TKC80
Mitas e07
Mitas e09
Karoo
The e09s seem to offer the best life/grip blend but squared off badly at the end. The Karoos are doing well. The e07s were the worst tyre I have ever used and I pulled them off before they were half worn.
None of the tyres have got above 5000 miles before being shot. I am a reasonably swift road rider.
