Forks / mudguard

Hola

sorry but this is a bit of a superfical thread

i think the Tenere is a good looking bike...its unique i think. BUT, i think the the forks and the front mud guard look pants.i also have the high touratech mud guard and this makes the forks look even more naff.

So what can i do?

Gaiters: thinking of replacing them with some Neoprene ones (acrebis?)

Protectors: has anyone fitted / adapted forks protectors to fit the lower forks?

Mud guard: i really like the mud guards on the KTM 690..or is it 640? its a low angler mud guard with fork protectors built in. Looks more Dakar. i think guys have fitted them when fitted WP front ends.

any thoughts?

I think you mean the KTM 950/990 Adventure one.

The 690 comes with a high guard as standard (what with being an overgrown enduro bike), but most of the Rally conversions I've seen use a 9x0 one with some sort of brackets to make the guard fit the single-disc fork legs.

RallyRaidProducts sell both the guards and the mounting kit. I think JMo went down this route with her bike. I took one look at the price and decided my 25 high mudguard would be fine after all.

Of course unless you are fitting WP forks you'd have to just buy the mudguard and figure out your own way of fitting it.

I think what you really want to do is fit a WP front end

i do to be hoenst ive been reading your(i think) post about how you did yours.

How i see it is...you have two choices. buy it all from OTR, which is going to cost more than i paid for the bike, or do it with 2nd hand KTM stuff. But i dont think i have the knowledge to do that as when reading your post you obvioulsy have engineering skills. I can follow a Haynes manual & do basic services no probs but thats my limit.

So the other option (i guess theres 3 then?? ) is to get the forks rebuilt, new springs and maybe emualtors fitted...which sorts the internals and seems im no Dakar god would suffice.

But being a little superfical...it still means the forks still look ****e. hence the gaitors/mud guard thing.

i do think theres a lack off aftermarket parts for the Tenere.

Nah, if you reckon you could change a set of headstock bearings, then you can do the fork conversion, as long as you are prepared to buy the OTR yokes.

If you want to try and do some sort of mash-up of other yokes (like Bernard did) then you need someone with engineering knowledge and access to a machine shop. But what I did was more or less just a bolt-on job because while I have the former I don't have the latter. Or the patience.

I think my front end stands me at about 1200, without selling any of the old bits.

I did use the hydraulic press at work to swap the steering stem. Any car/bike workshop would be able to do that for you for a few quid in beer money.

I paid someone to rebuild the forks with new bushes, seals, and oil. They're set up as if for a KTM 450SX, and seem to work OK on the Ten.

I did machine up the bar risers, but you could buy them.

Probably overkill for road and trailriding use, but they do look good as well

these are the mudguards i think im on about?

http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/...w-fender-black

I thought they were made out of plastic....not pure gold!! 183.50!!!

Look so much better than the normal low Ten mudguard, doubt you could get it to fit though. no way would i pay that much anyway!

Also, while we're talking about the front end. Is the "kreiga haul loop" only for pulling you bike by hand, or are they safe to use when being towed?? (never been towed)

Here's some stuff that may be of interest to you?

The Polisport fork guards may be adaptable? They're cheap enough to warrant getting a set and having a go at modifying them to fit.

No.

Not because I have any doubts about the strength of the haul loop (although it's not designed for that). Just because towing a bike from the headstock is a recipe for disaster.

Footpeg to footpeg.

I have just ordered a ufo super moto fender

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2706180491...84.m1423.l2649

After seeing piccies on different sites today. Will add mine when done. Will mean may have to clean it and park it at the top of a hill though..

Not as "beaky" as the mx fender and just means fitting toe hook the other way up apparently
