As you know the Tenere rear is 130/80-17

Im looking at trying an army special on the rear (had a front one, thought it was brilliant).

The army special size is 4.75 - 17. I think the 4.75 part is how wide the rim is (in inches). Will this be ok on the Tenere.

4.75 will be slightly wider than a 130, should be okay as I've heard of 140's being used which is roughly 5-5.10

4.75 is narrower than a 130, its roughly equivalent to a 120.

5.00/5.10 is equivalent to a 130.

140's will do. But a 4.75 is more a 120 (4.75in x 2.54in) than a 130.

A 130 is the same as a 5.10 give or take...
If yer ride on lose surfaces "gravel roads" go down to
a 120 / 4.60... a narrower tyre cuts though
the lose top into the harder base easyer..
A wider tyre just rolls around on the top...
mud/sand go with the wider tyre...

yer choise the tyre tread patten for what yer on
& also how wide the tyre is...

It's fine. I've used several of them.

If you were closer to Derby I've got a couple of lightly used ones you could have had for cheap.

FWIW, I like the Army front, but I think the Mitas C-02 is a better choice for the rear - still aggressive in the dirt, but more stable on tarmac and lasts longer.

Ive never heard CO2 as stable on the road before! !

I know a lot of people with CO2's and they love them, but all agree that on the road there dodgy. Especially when they wear as there fairly square to start with.

My 120 army rear has just arrived, looks well skinny! Mind you, I'm running a 140 at the mo.

Its interesting when people say that skinny tyres sit on the surface better - old school land rover and such always have skinny tyres.
