Tart Parts...
Bike Candy, Trinketry, Farkles, call them what you will...
Having spent far too much time on ADV rider while I've been here, I thought it might be an idea to start a thread to show our favorite bits of bike candy and/or utter waste of money... OK, so I really just wanted an excuse to show off my latest modification (now my big trip is essentially over, I thought I'd treat the Tenere to some trinketry) - but it is also tenuously helpful for anyone looking to fit replacement levers on the Tenere: These are the C5 Sport (streetbike) levers, rather than the off-road specific ones... the brake lever is the FZ1/FZ6 04-08 version, and directly fits the Tenere master cylinder. ASV pn. BRC541 (-S if you want the shorty version like this) http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...x/DSC00358.jpg The clutch lever is the same as the Suzuki GSXR 600/750 from 97-05 (also the V-Strom DL650 04-07 or the SV650 99-06) and fits the stock Tenere perch - yea! ASV pn. CRC530 (-S if you want the shorty version like this) http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...x/DSC00359.jpg They are meant to be unbreakable (this version has a 5-year guarantee) and certainly bend in a crash, although not as far round as their off-road specific F3 levers... http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...x/DSC00360.jpg They also come in a right fancy box... mmmmmmmm! http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...x/DSC00357.jpg Like I say, a totally expensive and unnecessary (perhaps?) addition, but make the bike feel like a million dollars! xxx |
Oh i do like to come in a fancy box!:drool[1]:
|
oooh, nice :)
price? |
That's almost as rude as asking my age or my weight... and sadly the numbers are almost the same...

Very pretty !
They are 75 quid a pop from Busters: http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk...RC510SG&kw=asv Nick. |
JMO<
Fitted those to my new sports bike, as ever black levers with gold adjusters.... Nice WB |
Nice levers JMo, I'm considering sawing mine and filing the edges round.
My latest fancy part was having the seat re-foamed and re-covered. Oh and continuing the DIY aspect of my Ten I made a camera mount so I can take pictures/video on the road. Still not made the front rack though...but if I have time I'll be fitting some Firestorm micron silencers to it, possibly with one as a tool tube ;) |

In fact ironically (bearing in mind they are made in the bloody USA) that is about 30 a pair cheaper than I paid here... Still, my ProTaper bars and clamps were correspondingly less (dollars for pounds) so it all evens out I guess... xxx |

Groan... only half a dozen posts, and already this thread has turned into a veritable smut-fest...

But of course....we have to keep the standards up you know...:hahaha[1]: Nick. |
I am sorry this happened JMo... boys will be boys. All they need is a little tease and they're off. I don't think they meant to get a bit out of hand.
Perhaps if you didn't use the word puppies their libido would have been more contained. Play with matches and all that... :SPanikengun77: |
Those levers look sweet. Want to see more bling, comon guys don't be shy! I have nothing to show though. =(
|
I know, I'm only jealous. I also don't have much to share. Changed the bars to Renthal Dakar's, renthal grips, venom hand guards, K&N filter, re-worked seat, MM screen with a flip by me, then all the DIY parts- pannier frames, rear rack, handguard spoilers, camera mount, and all the stuff still to do!
|
I say "What recession!" We need to get these bike candies to boost our respective economies. So JMo, am I correct that if you ride like most proper enduro riders, i.e. index and middle fingers on the levers at all times, then your new candy levers would in no way obstruct the pinkies and the ring fingers, even with thick winter gloves? OK, I am not asking scientific answer, just your general view.

they are sweet tho, i'll bear them in mind for if (when) i snap my originals..... Pete. |

omg! you're in trouble now!! :D :D :D |
Dont worry, wikipedia states-
A dude is an individual, typically male, particularly somebody well dressed or who has never lived outside a big city. The female equivalent, which is used less often, is "dudette." However, "dude" has evolved to become more unisex to encompass both genders[3], and this was true even in the 1950s, when the word was used in its more traditional sense.[4] |
Hee hee - show a bunch of guys some shiny bits (ooops, there I go again!) and their true colours come tumbling through!
Don't worry, I'm not offended by any of it fellas! Keith - I've been called 'DuuuuDE' here plenty of times while I've been here on the Tenere! It's almost like a badge of honour x (and as Rich points out, it's a pretty unisex term these days) - I'd probably draw the line at 'Geezer' mind you! Pete - I was kidding (only that after six months of eating American food, my weight in pounds is pretty much what the levers cost me in pounds!), of course I'm happy to tell you how much they were, although I see Nick posted a link already to Busters in the UK - result! However, there are much cheaper alternatives if you are just looking for spares (see the consumables thread I think)... Josepheau - you are right in you assumption, the shorty levers do give more clearance for the riding style you describe, and are adjustable for throw too. Keep up the smutty good work fellas! I enjoy a good giggle... xxx |
i kinda figured you were, hence my apology wasnt too sincere :icon_clown:
i could well fancy a set of them, i just tend to wait until i've bust the standard stuff before i buy blingy stuff hell, the last time i used shorty levers was on my mountain bike!! |

Hmm, 'mountain bike tart parts' now theres a topic i could add a list to!

Note the clutch lever comes with a removable tab to attuate the cut-out switch for starting the bike in gear - so you can retain that function as required (I'd already disconnected the wiring on mine anyway). xxx |

Maybe it's paranoia, but it's just one less thing to go wrong x
I don't like over complicated electrics (being used to my XRs that really only have a couple of wires in the whole loom!) - lets say, for example, you had a crash/drop and/or got the switch clogged up with mud - you might find you had to put the bike into neutral before it would start... admittedly not a problem you might come across in day to day riding, but might be tricky out on the trail if stuck in a precarious position? Likewise I also disconnected (and removed) the side stand cut out switch as that is in a potentially vulnerable position and can drag through a lot of muck off road, and might start to cause problems? - for example I understand some DRZ400S owners have noticed that when you go over a big bump, the sidestand jumps on it's mount and momentarily cuts the ignition... Again, if it ain't there, it can't break or go wrong? xxx |
love the look of these levers. Don't know why motorbike manufacturers don't go to the same effort that mountain bike guys do. Loads of good stuff on the market and with a wee bit of negotiation one manufacturer could get a jump on the rest for next to nowt. I suppose KTM do try harder than the rest but seem to pass on the extra cost and then some.
Anyway, I'm thinking of fitting heated grips and possibly new levers but wondering about getting new bars before I start the fangle process! I notice you have protaper bars JMo and wonder what type they are and dimmensions? Seen a few options but if I go for fat bars I will need new clamps etc. Have you stuck with 22mm and a cross brace? What's the crack with fitting end weights to aftermarket bars? Any info greatly appreciated, cheers. |
Hi Stoo - my bars are the ProTaper Contour (ie 28mm) YZ High Bend version, plus their universal fat-bar adapter clamps...
However, having fitted them, turns out they are not really any higher than the standard bars (even including the adapters) so I will probably go for something else to get a little more rise - for info, the Renthal RC High Bend are my personal favorite (on the XR) and noticeably higher than the ProTapers... Another option is an ATV type regular 22mm bar which tend to have more rise, although they also seem to have a much more angled sweep/layback, which I don't like... Check out Renthal and ProTaper's websites for their various dimensions... xxx ps. as for refitting the original bar ends (why?!) - but you could probably tap out the new bars if you could get a tap in the correct thread size, there is plenty of metal thickness in either bar... |
Thanks JMo, very useful. My thoughts on the bar end weights are that I have the Touratech hand guards and they come with their own little replacement weights..replacing the big hideous Yamaha jobs. Need to have a wee think about what to do. I like the look of the Easton bars purely because they are black with a flash of red and white!!
|

I had a look at those Easton bars -they are even fatter I believe - and as such they need their own clamps/risers it seems? Of course you might be able to use those on the existing Tenere top triple clamp, but you might find they are lower than with the stock risers? xxx |

I had a little mishap yesterday. My clutch lever had already snapped and it was one of those little jobs I never get around too. So spurred on by this thread I took it off and wondered what size to cut it down to. Then I thought I love my levers on my TTR so just copy them. So cut and sanded the lever put it back on bike and said **************** and blast.
Yes I now have a clutch lever that is good for 1 1/2 fingers. My break lever is great but now I need to get a new clutch lever and start again or get used to 1 finger clutch control.:021: |

I recently bought one of these to fit to my XTR. I ordered a BRC541S to fit an 06-08 FZ1 but the mounting is different. It is stamped underneath with the number BLR41. Can you tell me if there is a number stamped on the underside of the aluminium piece the mounts to the brake master cylinder on yours and if so what is that number? Many thanks Andy |
Hi Andy - I don't have these levers anymore - I sold them to someone on here (might have been GLUGo, it was a while ago now)...
However, from what you are saying (and what is stamped on the lever in your photo), I'd say you've got the wrong one - as I was pretty certain the part numbers I've quoted in my original post were what was stamped on the levers too? Maybe someone put the wrong lever in the box - what is the number on the box they came in? Also, I'm presuming the XTR has the same master cylinder as the Tenere (XTZ)?, as the part numbers I quoted were specifically for the Ten'... Sorry I can't be of more help... J xx |
For the record, it seems they don't fit the XTX, the brake cylinder seems to be the opposite way around.. glad i didnt order them, nasty price $450 for the pair here in Aus!

thanks very much for your reply. The number on the box is a BRC541S however the piece that attaches the lever to the master cylinder clamp is way different to the one you had in your photos to the one i was supplied. I checked with my local dealer and he thought they were the same on the R & Z. Anyway what I need to do is find out the number stamped on the piece between the lever and the clamp. I know its not a BLR41:icon_frown: Thanks for your help anway:001: Andy |

The ASV's are a very nice piece of bike porn though, and clever too, they have moved altered the geometry of the pivot/cable achor so that it doesn't take any extra force to operate the levers (being short), just need to make sure you adjust your clutch after fitting them....... :puke:or it doesn't engage! |
