Welcome DNA and big thanks to both you and Captain.
Hi DNA, as you mention that we have to check our fueling and injection, I have the following questions: 1) do you have any data or view on how the filter(s) affect fuel consumption, and, 2) do you already have some dyno companies that would provide the Tenere-specific program for Power Commander with or without DNA filters and with or without aftermarket exhausts? Many thanks. |
Guys I am sorry but it is in my interest to correct you all henceforth...
Please only ask DNA questions related to their filters and please remember that DNA does not produce exhausts and they do not produce power commanders hence they cannot comment on programs / maps and similar, however they are able to give you their own results + comparisons to AF ratio with or without DNA filters made with their in-house dynometer machines. Please readdress all your questions accordingly bearing in mind DNA Filters Ltd only produce filters. Thanks |
Hello DNA,
I'm very impressed and happy to meet you on this board. In my business (IT), some manufacturers are hiding behind call centers, websites without contact information and so on. It is really nice to hear from the people that created my air filter (I am using the DNA filter on my Tenere). And yes, I do have questions too.:002: I do understand that the Stage 2 filter does provide a better airflow. But will it be much better than manually removing a part of, or the complete snorkel from the factory airbox lid? The DNA filter is covered with a sort of iron lattice-work. On my filter, a very small part is slightly deformed (to be crystal clear, not a factory error but my error). The cotton is not damaged. Will the filtering in that specific part be less then the other parts? Or in other words, is the iron lattice-work important for the filtering function? Thanks, in advance. Regards, Borus. |

First question: The DNA filters will not worsen fuel consumption but only improve it, on a bike using stock mapping. There are a couple of reasons that a filter will increase fuel consumption a) very bad filter design b) low quality filtering media. Both reasons Not an issue for the DNA filters. As most of you already know our filters are very well designed and our cotton filtering material the best in the world. Additionally before releasing a filter we undertake a great deal of testing to be 100% sure that what we offer is what you get. Of course we have seen bikes with custom mapping that was way of, in the part load, part throttle area. This is the area of the map that you are normally using every day and if it is wrong it will affect fuel consumption regardless the filter you are using. Wide open throttle or at 100%, if before a modification your bike was producing 45 hp and know 52 or 55 hp ok of course you will burn more fuel to produce the extra ponies. But do you ride wide open throttle all day long? Second question: We do have available Powercommander maps for the XT 660 R & X and shortly we will do some mapping for XT 660 Z. The only issue holding us back is that for the next 30-40 days our R&D is loaded with projects (the race season is due to start) and we will need to source a bike from a customer in Greece, for a couple of days. If there is a forum member that would like to offer his bike, he will get a DNA filter, a DNA Stage 2 Cover, and mapping for free. The Powercommander at a dealer cost if he doesnt have one already. Concerning exhausts, as CaptMoto explained, nothing we can do, we map the bike as it comes equipped. And just for everyone to know at DNA we use a Dynojet 250 Eddy current dyno equipped with a Dynojet tuning link. I hope the above answers your questions. Dino |

Thank you for your kind comments, We at DNA have no reasons to hide, you can always reach us on the phone or by e-mail. Concerning me personally, you will not find me at the Head office, or at the Directors meeting room, or at my very elegant office at the factory..you will find me at the R&D Department or the Dynoroom! a) Now, if you would decide to cut the rubber intake snorkel of the XT 660 Z it will be necessary to retain the lower part because it seals against the air filter. The result is not very nice and you cant have a build in venture, as the DNA has. The air flow will be much lower than the DNA intake because of the turbulent flow; this is the reason why customers that custom cut the snorkel can get away without fuel injection mapping, because the final air flow is not so high. b) From your description you managed to squeeze and deform the aluminum wire mesh that keeps the 4 cotton layers in place. Normally the filtering efficiency and performance of the DNA isnt affected under such a condition, but if you could e-mail me a photo I would be glad to double check it and reply to you. Thanks for choosing DNA Dino |

Please don't worry, it is a pleasure for me to answer questions that are not only air filter related. My compliments again for the superb forum :WellDone_OROQR1:. Regards, Dino |
basic questions
Hi DNA.
I hope you dont mind some pretty basic questions. Firstly are DNA filters ones you clean and oil like K&N? Secondly you reccomend a fueling check, how do I do this, Dyno? thanks again and I am very interested to purchase the kit for my New Tenere. |

The DNA filter is based on the same principle, the multi layer cotton air filter that is impregnated in oil But then we take this basic idea and add. The specially designed DNA Nafta cotton filtering media Over 98% filtering efficiency High quality epoxy coated marine grade aluminum mesh Large radius pleats Variable pitch filtering media DNAs Advanced full contour design Our unique and specially formulated DNA filter oil that will not absorb humidity High quality Elastomer Thixotropic Polyurethane Built in the filter Venturi design High quality EVA foam seals factory glued Reverse Engineering using Faro & Microscribe 3D Arms CAD (computer aided design) CAM (computer aided manufacturing) CNC machining In House tooling manufacturing CAAFT (computer aided air flow testing) Industrial automation & Robotics production systems Dyno testing Tuning know how The Life time warranty Add a couple more top secret features that DNAs Engineers have developed.. .and you will end up with the DNA filter. Sorry if I have confused you, I need to start a topic and analyze all the above. Also visit the following link that a DNA user has posted, you will be impressed! http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=440368&highlight=FILTERS Concerning fueling, you have 2 options: A) Check it on the dyno. B) Check it on the road using a Wide Band lamda, Dynojet or any other brand. I hope the above helped you. Best regards Dino |
Yes Dino I will move all the relevant post to the XTX stage 3 in a dedicated post and I will then show the link here.

Please continue the XTX / XTR Stage 3 project discussion on this link, thanks
