OK, having gathered various comments including Kev's, am I correct in below?

1) the cans ALONE, without a performance airfilter or power commander, are really just for the sound and may be weight saving. A single can would give higher hp and torque at the low to mid range but underperforms at the top rpm range, while a duo can would provide higher hp at the top rpm range but does nothing to the low to mid range. Regardless of the types of cans, they, at best, may help the engine breathes out easier but do not give more power/torque for the bike.

2) a racing/performance airfilter ALONE allows more air for the combustion in the engine, therefore it burns more fuel, but it also gives more power/torque.

3) a performance ignition cable, e.g. Nology, plus an iridium spark plug would produce bigger spark for the bang to the piston, i.e. improve the combustion from the ignition point of view (the airfilter provides the air point of view in a combustion). It gives slightly more power/torque and smoothness of the engine.

4) a power commander re-adjusts the fuel injection in order to make the best of the given airflow - from the types of airfilters, the exhaust cans, or both - along the rpm curve. In other words, a proper setting with the PC would maximize the power/torque generated from the given type of air filter and the can used.

So what grade do I get? :confused2:

yep, its the white one that's still in the shop waiting for the exhausts to come from Italy. Van Meel was the only one that responded to my email that they had one ready for a test drive.

Hi Patrick, are you saying that an after-market exhaust, single can or duo, would not benefit the Z as much as the combination of power commander and open air filter? Sorry, I didn't do well in Physics when in school, and despite my having read various comments, I am still a bit confused.

I am not a rocket scientist either but an articel in the "motoplus" with a suzuki gsxr1000 showed that aftermarket cans don't improve the performance as much as you think. Some cans even had less horsepower than the original. In the end the gixxer had 178hp (stock) the best improved 3hp and the worst lost 3hp. Conclusion its mostly for the look and sound.

Thanks Patrick. That saves me time and money until there is a pipe that just knocks my socks off.

Funny,

same story here(regarding testdrive). I've seen that a lot, dealer's not responding to email inquiries. Damn stupid because it can cost them a lot of money (specialy in a little country like NL) .
So van Meel sold at least 2 bikes by simply answering their email (and great followup of course)....

From what ive found out yes to 1-4, not too sure about 3 ive never read much about them, i understand the bigger bang will mean a better spark therefore more go.

I think it all depends on the size of your wallet or what you wanting from your tenere.

Personally i would go for a performance air filter and some non standard cans. 1 can or 2 is up to you as im sure the differeneces kev are talking about are not that massive that you will notice unless your racing the tenere across the desert or something like that.

Interesting stuff, I dont have the spare money for extra cans/can yet but a performance air filter is not so expensive and would be a good start while I wait to see what comes on the market. :mixed-smiley-014:

Hey, y'all! I visited my dealer today(my Yamaha-dealer!) and they said that the ordered Touratech parts(white handguards&red spoilers(they'll be put on instead of the original guards&deflectors, which look good but don't provide enough protection that I look for), small luggage carrier and sidestand enlarger) will be delivered beginning of december, as expected. The Touratech spokesman at the Intermot already told me, that the parts wouldn't be available as yet, probably in december. The whole line of parts must available in january. Greetz, Hans.

I see Touratech UK have got the new Tenere parts up on their website (with prices and pictures) along with a disclaimer about lead times - be interesting to see how long they actually take to arrive once you click to buy though!
