Aluminium side cases

Someone wrote in some forum, that teneres aluminium side cases looks crap in real, but not in pictures. Is that true, maybe I wait to order the side cases in till I see them live.

I think most will go for a different after market set of alu panniers, not cause the yamaha ones are not good just most if spending money on panniers probably want something different and speical.

I think the Yamaha ones look pretty good, I asked the Yamaha guy to open them for me and they seemed better made than the Touratech ones, not seen any metal mules so I cannot comment on those but from checking the website they are making some to fit the new Tenere, with prices ranging from 749 upto 841 including frame and fitting kit. see the link below.

Hold on whats that my hearts stopped beating and i am in hospital, why?? You just saw the price of those panniers.
How much where they?
74............. beep yep he's away again.

They are just taking the piss, to get them on your XTR you have to pay 350 for an exhaust system then buy panniers and frames which total over 1000. I dont think they will sell too many at that price for the tenere either. If Yamaha's own ones are anything around 500 they will sell better. I still cant get over that price.

SW Motech

Ive come across these panniers from SW Motech on the web, i havent seen them in the "flesh" as such. A choice of finishes and they dont seem to be very expensive. Regards mounting the boxes, i personally would go with a Hepco and Becker pannier rails and the Touratech mounting kit

On the site it says 16 week waiting time.

I've ordered the pannier rack of Hepco&Becker, the Lock-it system. Same quality as the conventional racks by H&B, but you can take it off rather easily when you don't want to use it. Partnumbers:
Lock-it rack: 650.4526-0001
Upper luggage rack: 650.4526-0101
Adapter kit for alu panniers: 700.201

The pannier rack costs about 225,- euro's, delivery aug/sept. Link: www.hepco-becker.de . Greetz, Hans.

Having only just got the bike the thought of paying out lots more money for panniers is putting me off. There are some panniers available that cost much less than even the Yamaha ones. on Sw motech there are two types one set look alot like metal mules the other set is even cheaper.

I have heard bad revies of the touratech boxes compared to MM's but I think both are way over priced.

The sw motech trax boxes look good in black and will suit my Black Tenere.

I have some old boxes that are homemade and I may try to make them fit or just make some more. Its not so hard and the materials are not expensive.

If you are any good at DIY someone posted a link in the Tenere luggage department with full descriptions and pictures, which was well detailed, on how to make then yourself, which I found to be very impressive.

We are aware that the Yamaha ones are very expensive, luckily there are other alternatives.

Er, hang on guys. Metal Mule have got MY Z'ed for experimental work and have only just got the frame rails made. They are working on an engine guard, taller screen, bash plate, lowering links for rear suspension to name a few of the mods they have in mind. I have just returned from a break and am very busy so they will have the bike for the next couple of weeks. The prices are not out yet and I would suggest contacting them direct for more info rather than speculate. I am promised a set of pannier frames for letting them use my bike as a guinea pig and expect to get more freebies.

......like a discount on some panniers!
