I'm currently running Conti TKC 80 front and Mich MT21 rear for offroad summer riding. Later in the year as it gets wetter I'll go back to the stock XT660R treads. I'd be interested to know what offroad treads others are using both for on and off road riding. |
I have metzeler,i do ride offroad(but soft,bike is not made for hard offroad),mine have 5100 km on clock and it looks like i put them yesterday (XTR)

Heidenau
I�ve just fitted set of heidenau k73. Now my xtx handles like it should at gravel, lets see how long these tyres last. Mainly I bought heidenaus because they were so cheap, had pair of those at the price of a one big manufacturers tyre.

I have used the following tires over the last 60000 kilometers with my XT 660 R:
Street: Metzeler Tourance Pirelli Scorpion 90 S/T Gravel: Continental TKC 80 I am really curious about the KENDA tires. I think that I might order a pair. Johan |
Tyres
Using the Pirelli Dragons that came on the bike. Still on the original front at 3200 miles but about to scrap another rear, will probably change to Diablos then, front and rear, as Dragons now obsolete. Have used Pirelli tyres on a couple of previous bikes and like the feel they give.

Yep.....originals as well......Personally I can`t fault them.........Probably two rears to one front in the wear stakes but they work well.
I will most likely replace them with whatever the new versions are to at least stick with the same make.......don`t know if that really matters but makes the choice easy. Rick |

Pirelli's are sticky but....
I have been impressed by the standard tyres but not by their lifespan. 1500 miles is just pants. I'll be switching back to Bridgestones (012ss front, 020 rear)) coz they are sticky enough for the track, predictable in the wet and good for at least a couple of thousand miles on the rear

I have just ordered a set of Pirelli MT 21 for my XT660R

Continental`s supermoto rubbers definitely rocks. You can check the reviews out on the net. Also using a softer on the front is a good idea.

When this poll started wasn't it "what tyres do you use?" now it is which do you prefer?? I had Pirrellis at the time and did not like them, I now have Avons and do like them. So can my vote be changed to Avons?

XTR...Am runnin Michelin Sirac...ave found them to be good, a have run Continential TKC80`s very good in Dry and not bad in wet...but any tyre isnt THAT good in the wet...
on the side cause a know the moderators dont like ye adding text tae apoll, but a noticed another user sayin he was getting MT21`s....they are the bees knees in the dirt... but on the road...FORGET IT although they are legal for the road but try goin around a bend comfortably.....!!!!!!! |
I am running the metzeler M3 tyres and am finding them great, excellent feel and after 3000 km and a track day they still look like they have alot mor kms to go :-). I did have michelin pilot powers before these and they were quite good and got 10000 km out of them but i think the metzelers have more feel.

just fitted a new Conti SM on the rear. Seems to be pretty good so far :D

Siracs supplied with bike - intend to get another pair of wheels when pension allows to keep one set for road/trail other set for full nobblies. Siracs O.K. for mixed use - done 3000km and rear will need replacing soon (gravel is not good for tyres of any make).

Best tyres for the XTR are the Metzler Tourance, try them and you will thank me for the advice.

Currently got Metzler Tourance which i have no grip problems etc with just milage of the semi off road tyres, thinking of trying a set of Michilen BT45's or something similar next.:111:

still got the original tourance on the front but just fitted a dunlop 750 on the rear and it works a treat in the rough I only paid �32.50 delivered.
Thing is it shows up just how crap the tourance is on anything but hardpack, so now i need to find a bargain front or fit an old mt 21 thats been behind the shed for about 4 years |

Removed the original Michelin Siracs (only 1600 miles on the Ten at the time) to fit Heidenhau K60 M+S to do the Elefantentreffen and Tauerntreffen the January just gone.
I have used Conti TKC80s on my previous bike, a DR650RSE, but wanted to try a tyre that was equally as good in the snow, but with hopefully some more wear. I found the K60s to be very good in the snow and having put about 2000 miles on in just over a week, there still seems to be plenty of wear left in them. They also seemed pretty grippy in the little bit of mud at the Dragon. I've put my name down for the Lakeland meet and would like to try a little green laning/off-roading and to see how the K60s cope. I've got a new set of TKC80s lying in the garage (originally to fit to my DR) that will also need to be used up at some point. I only did around 400 miles on the Siracs before removing them, but they seemed fine and I will probably put them back on at some point just to use them up. With the K60s fitted and the Siracs and TKC80s in reserve, I don't think I'll need to buy tyres for quite a while yet! Simon |

I have a TKC 80 at front which is ok on tar and good trails but not slippery muddy stuff. The rear is a Mitas C02 which on tar wet or dry is entertaining, on slippy wet rocks it's useless and on slippy slimy mud and bogs, it's amazingly aggressive. River beds are a hoot because it will just dig a hole then you need to swim across. On good forest tracks, they will know you have been there. lol. I think the Michelin T63 is awsome on and off road but won't last.

K60 a good 50/50 tyre.
K60 front and back, Its a great value tyre. I found the rear a bit scary on the road at first, I could feel it dropping off the edge as its got a flat profile.
I was thinking of changing them but decided to lower the presure first and test them again. With the pressure dropped from 30 to 24 front and 25 rear they are transformed. They feel much better on the road and pretty good off road to. I think they are a good 50/50 tyre. |

I have Metz Tourances on a 2010 Tenere The general opinion of Tourances from this thread seems to be; OK in the dry on the road (although I have had a slide in the dry already on a clean road) Rather poor in the wet on the road, just feel skitterish as hell to me Terrible offroad (I concur) This is a conclusion based on the average on what has been said here and backed up by my own experience of them (very short) 350 miles yes they have been right over so are well scrubed in. So the question is, given that the Ten is an all purpose bike if they are so bad off road and only just OK on road in the wet, why bother with them at all? as from what I can see they are not really dual purpose and a big compromise on-road. I rode on grass yesterday for 20 yards and a bit of very shallow mud and the ten was like a drunken camel. So, whats the best "proper road tyre" for the Ten as the tourance seems like a compromise that is no good off road. May as well have proper road tyres or something capable on the wet stuff. Maxxis M6006 - but I definitely will not buy these again.
Very slippery on-road and not so good off-road. The look like Heidenau K60 but are cheaper. So my vote goes to K60, if comparing those two. |

They look like rain tyres but I didn't have chance to ride them much so I can't judge their road capability. |
Hmm, I would've expected more comments in a thread like this one.....
I've had Conti TKC 80's, they were ok but the front cupped rather badly. Could have been under inflated but if you pumped them up the vibration was not good. Tried a set of Mefo's, again they were ok but the front always felt a bit skittish. Never really trusted them. At the moment a set of Heidenau K60 Scouts front and rear, they do square off, but these would have to the best 50/50 tyre I've had yet. Handle the wet road well and perform in the dirt well. Deep gravel and mud arer not their favourite place to be. But then I think any 50/50 tyre is not going to like that. |
