Heidenau K60's
had them on for 3000 or 4000 miles, i forget which atm. front is holding up great but the rear is showing some serious wear... maybe my riding style though (yobo) |
Yokohama = Shinko
I mostly use Shinko 705 or 700 |
This week......I mostly have Mitas E-09 Dakars
|
Dunlop Mutant: simply the best!
I have been using Dunlop Mutant for about 5,000Km now on my 2005 XT660X. I use the m'bike every day for commuting to work. tires are fantastic, great grip on tarmac and potholes in Rome's streets as well as on "sampietrini" i.e. slippery squared stones used to pave the streets by ancient romans which are still in place in Rome. when it is raining those roads become slippery like a glass covered with soapy water but the Mutants make the magic and you feel safe when breaking even at 50-60Km hour speed.
I will definitely buy another pair of Mutant in future. cheers, Davide (XT660XRoma) |

Karoo was nothing special and gave vibration, I ride mostly on roads/boreens and some tracks so as I had a pair of E07s in garage saw no reason to keep the Karoo. Mitas are a mighty tyre, totally predictable and good price/wear rate.... Karoo just seemed pointless for my riding.

Just put on some Mefo Explorers, after running some second-hand Mefo's. Like them a lot. Got rid of the Siracs as fast as I could. They were dangerous off the road.
|
Brand new TKC70.
They are awesome, just what the bike needs. 154 and hopefully good for about 10,000 miles |
Running Tkc80 at the moment but thinking of mitas eo9 Dakar or golden Tyre gt 201, i know two totally different Tires but still not decided!!...
|
My new 'german friends' (memo explorers), replacing the second hand ones I had before. I was told they give excellent mileage. I am quite happy with them on the road, but not enough fire roads to have an opinion yet. I have also put in mefo heavy duty inner tubes as after my flat of last year, I have this great fear of being stranded with a flat tyre in a remote location.

Mitas E07 at the back and Conti TKC80 in front.
They work well on tarmac as well as in the dirt. |
A plus vote for the mefo heavy tubes, good quality tubes..

How does this combination work on wet tar, eg The daily UK commute? Thanks |
I have subsequently changed the back Mitas E07 for a Pirelli MT90.
The E07 back only lasted just over 3000km whereas on my previous BMW800GS it lasted much longer (about 8000km). That combination works fine on wet tarmac roads and very well on dirt. But in South Africa we definitely don't have the lousy wet weather of the UK. |
Vaun I'm dead happy with the Mefo's even on wet tar on the occasional commute. And they were pretty good today on the gnarly gravel bits. If they give me the miles some claim, I will not change to anything else again.

previously mitas 07, now trying 09's

Avon Distanzia. ...a brilliant tyre!, Total confidence in the wet, fine for green landing. I'd rather take a tumble off road than on!! Steve
|
Pirelli MT 60. Best tyres ever!
|
Seems I am the only one that uses
Yokohama / Shinko tyres... Shinko 700... Good to be diffrent.... Shinko 700 http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...1/SAM_0161.jpg .. |

How do yer find tyres with inline nobb patten ???... I have noticed they can be a bit prone to sliding in the corners.. I like the side nobbs to be staggered.. .. |

Now run Heidenau's K60 Scouts(third set!), but will try the Avon Trail Rider next time. I am very happy with the Scouts, great on dry and wet roads, also good on gravel roads. Good handling, good mileage too(all sets around 20.000km's!). But because I don't do offroad that much, I'd like to try a more road orientated tyre like the Avon Trail Rider.
|
Soon to be riding avon distanzia's on my xtx. Currently have a set on order at my local bike shop. Tyres I've used up until now have been the original ones the bike came with.
Never noticed an lack of grip from them, so am eager to see how the Avons compare |
I found the Mitas E07 back tyre lasted only just over 3000km and changed it for Pirelli MT90. Very good on tar and quite good off road.
At 4800km I now also had to change the front Conti TKC80 and fitted a Dunlop D606 which will get tried out on a long trip in a few days. |
I have Mitas E07 for the last 6000 km pretty happy with them, good on wet tar, well mannered for green laning, not so good in mud though.
In dry conditions are just perfect on tar or dirt. |
Bike came with Tourances but not that impressed, was going to change when they wore out but a pair came upon here at a good price so I fitted them again.
Now worn out again so had to decide what to buy. I've used Trailwings but seemed to get more than my fair share of rear punctures, possibly nothing to do with the tyres but that ruled them out. I've had a couple of sets of Conti escapes and liked them apart from the tread blocks on the last rear I had developed large cracks between them which looked a bit iffy. So this time I've spent this afternoon fitting Conti Trail Attack 2s, let's see what they're like. I don't off road, if I can help it, but do quite a few muddy pot holed lanes to and from work and occasionally across a camp site field so hopefully they'll be up to the task. |
Had a pair of Shinko 705 on my Tenere. Average + tyres. Ok grip, handling and feedback. But they lasted only 9500 km. Front could have done 2-3000 more but chose to change that too.
A little disappointed that they didnt lasted longer but have been doing some pretty rough outbackroads in NT and WA in Australia in very very hot weather conditions. I guy I rode with hot only 11-12 k kms out of a rear Heidenau K60 - and that was TOTALLY done. He rode on the cord the last 2-300 kms. Now I have a set of Sava Invader 24 fitted. Said to be 30 off and 70 on road. Will be intetsting to what they are like and how long they last. |

Im now running my third set of Heidenaus K60 Scouts, but when theyre worn out, Ill change to the new Avon Trailriders. They got very good reviews on grip wet and dry, durability and mileage, and because Ill do more road ridinand just some offroad(gravel and forest roads), these seem the right tyre for me!
|
I currently have the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II, look good, feel nice, but....
I would trade my mother-in-law for a pair of Avon Distanzia that I definitely miss!!! No other tyre looked and felt so great on my XTX... NO OTHER! :smilies1349: ---not imported in Greece anymore... :( |

I've just fitted a pair of Trailriders (good use of a Sunday afternoon in December). First time I've run a tubeless tyre with tubes. Will let you know how I get on with them. Although it would be fair to say it will be a slightly different ride from the ones I'm taking off.

I use to ride Heidenau K60 Scout. Currently I have a set of Contintal TKC80.
|
Michelin T63 , Conti TKC80 or Mitas E-09 offroad / winter.
Any wannabee adventure tire on the black stuff or in summer. |
Just got a pair of Dunlop Sportsmart 2's to replace the Pirelli Diablo's the bike came with. Can't fault the Diablo's they gripped well come rain or shine (being my daily commuter in England it was mostly come rain!). After 250 miles in English winter the Dunlop's are proving to be just as good but with a better feel of the road and I feel more confident in corners too. Can't say much for mileage as of yet but so far I would recommend the Sportsmart 2's. Am wondering if I might have been better off with some Michelin Pilot Road 4's as have heard they are amazing for wet weather. Might try them next winter.
