Hi!

Sorry for my Spanglish. I’m JaumeV from Barcelona: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=21173

http://imageshack.us/a/img811/4987/8qyr.jpg

Last year and a half I had lot of fun riding and modifying a Yamaha Tnr 1200 witch I converted in an off road beast.

http://imageshack.us/a/img199/1186/v...331024x683.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img822/9014/v...024x683rec.jpg

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/3826/anb7.jpg

Most of my trips where with some colleagues, we could help each other so the weight of the bike wasn’t very important. But recently I have decided to do solo trips.

In my last trip to Morocco, I broke the bike’s fan and I was alone one day. Stuck in the sand I realized that a solo off road trip can be dangerous with such a heavy bike.

http://imageshack.us/a/img196/4479/raiz.jpg

So I decided to change the Tnr 1200 for a 660.
I've always liked the 660, it’s a reliable and simple motorcycle, comfortable and with good fuel capacity. I think it's one of the few bikes of this type in the market. I was also interested in the BMW GS800 but it’s much more sophisticated and despite being more expensive it has some poor components such the wheels or suspensions that need to improve. Another option is the more off road oriented KTM690 witch I like a lot. The KTM problem is that it is also more expensive than the Yamaha and needs more fuel capacity, improve the comfort for dual rides and more important I think it doesn’t have the reliability of the Yam. At least this is my bad experience with this branch. I love the KTM philosophy "ready to race" they are exciting and fun bikes but I'm not racing and I do not want to spend hours on maintenance. So finally I'll take the Yam.

That said, there are many things to improve in the 660. I'm sure that for 90 % of users the bike is perfect as it is but I want to get it to the limit... and I love farkling ... Basically what I want is to make it lighter, improve the engine without losing reliability ( or minimum ) and improve suspensions. The rest will be small mods , protections, etc. .

The bike arrives few weeks ago and this is the list of mods I have it now:

- Pegs, the series are too small to be many hours standing over them.
- Fender high to avoid wheel locks with clay
- Headlight protector
- Extended Kickstand
- Luggage rack
- Hand guards
- Skid plate
- Improve air intake
- New exhaust , preferably a single one to save weight
- Changing the seat to one level

Suspension:
- Front suspension from a Yamaha YZ. That means I need new triple clamps , front wheel hub , and a single brake disc. That saves a lot of weight and It improves the suspension.
- New rear suspension

I leave for later other things like suitcases , power comander and so on. Also the 18” rear wheel but I prefer to ride the bike a lot to be sure if it is necessary.

This is my new toy as it is now:

New toys arived: YZ450 bars

The fun begin :evil

I will show you here all the evolution and for sure lots of questions to all of you that know this bike better than me.

Thanks for posting here!

I know... I'm handsome :pjrlaugh_61OD3G:

And concerning to the bike... sorry but is not going to be black again... I've sold it few minutes ago !! :icon_thumright:

It was a Yamaha demo bike with only 7000 km. It looks as if it was new and was a good deal... but it was the ABS version and I don't need ABS. I was decided to take the ABS off but a guy phone me to buy it :041:

So, and I'm going to buy a new one without ABS.
The only colours I can have here in Spain are blue or matt gray. I think I'm going to have the gray.

Tomorrow I'm going to transferred the black and going to order the gray... hope they delivered soon... :mbounce:

Jaume,
Love your XT1200Z, nice bike. But yes I can imagine it would be heavy to pick up as the 660 is bad enough. Love the photos of the Swiss meet and I'd have to agree the Sonauto is a nice looking machine.

PhilinFrance 10-09-13 17:25

Hi Jaume
If my wife had let me ,i was on my way down to buy your 1200 !!!! some weeks back. Fantastic looking bike ............should have got divorced :HappyRoll_ANPIUI:

Anyway looking forwad to the 660 project and i agree the Sonauto dose look the ****** , very much like the Gauloise.

By the way was that you doing the rock climb in one on the video ? if so, well done that man.

The Super Tenere is an incredible bike, better off road that people think but too heavy riding alone, this is why I change it for the 660. As you said heavy as well but after pick the 240kgs of the 1200, the 660 looks an enduro to me!! :laughing11:

Too expensive: bike + divorce!! I think the new owner is nearly in the same problem!! :rofl[1]:

If do you mean this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdbK_Hy2byA

yes, it was me embarrasing the poor enduro guys. This bike has an incredible traction control :unibrow:

JaumeV 10-09-13 19:44

Meanwhile I don't start with the 660... as you like this "unique" bike, here are some pics: https://picasaweb.google.com/1078214...perTenere1200R

Bit out of focus but who cares?!

Molgan 10-09-13 22:33

Inspirational! Takes guts to drive that beast the way a Ten is supposed to, especially if you spent time and money on getting it into that shape. =)

Keep it up! (and the knobby side down)

I spend lot of time but I love it ans I had lot of help from the people who build the parts so no problem to get it to the limits. I also think a bike is for fun not to be worried.

I hope I can show you the new bike soon and start to work in it... too many days without bike!!! :120:

Ohlins 11-09-13 21:10

majland 20-09-13 18:33

Yes there are lots of good colors - in my opinion the red one is the only bad one :-)

Nice to see that the side panels are now available in black. Can't help but wonder what the black panels would do to my black one instead of the grey :-)

Pleiades 21-09-13 12:17

So Jaume, now you've got it (the right one this time ;) )...

C17 front and E09 Dakar rear.

The C17 is the first time I have it. The E09 comes from my Super T. Really hard. Perfect for Morocco but not good in wet or mud.

Yes I like it, It avoids this big and ugly RAM brackets
It is custom made cutting the ball bracket, drilling it and making screw thread. Is fixed maning a hole in the bar.

majland 25-09-13 19:33

The smallest RAM bar mount I've been able to find is the RAM-B-231ZU
i.e. http://www.ebay.de/itm/RAM-B-231ZU-R...item53fd1f1f09
