I cannot adjust my way out of this, even if I leave out the spacers supplied for the mounts it still touches the sidestand (and are now too close to the plastics). There's about 40mm clearance on the other side of the left linkpipe - so there's plenty of room for the linkpipe without it touching the sidestand or the rear arm.. But lets see what MTC replies, so far I've been very impressed by their support.

I guess when MTC redesigned the link pipes to accommodate the later type X swingarm, they missed a trick with the side stand issue. I suspect they tested the pipes on a brand new bike; if they'd used a bike that had done a few miles, I think the problem would have shown up. I'm thinking the stand sags a bit over time (????). I think MTC need to revisit the geometry, & perhaps suggest a means of adjustment to those of us with this (very minor) issue. I still think some form adjuster screw/stop could be fitted to the stand....

Recived my mtc's on thursday i will check the clearance on the x seen if it hits

Mine's an R, I don't know is there any difference in the link pipes between the two?

mash101 14-01-13 13:49

I think the pipes are the same for X & R, but the swingarms are different on each bike. I guess the rest of the frame & stand would also be identical on X & R, although the ride height is probably different due to different wheel sizes. So: is the stand a different length also??? All a bit confusing.....

I got an answer today from MTC. They say that they had the problem some months ago, but they reworked the link pipes and haven't had a problem since. Maybe I got some of the old ones eventhough I ordered in December - I dunno, I answered their question about my time of purchase, no reply yet.

Hmmm.... Mine are the newer type!!

Yeah, got another reply today. They said I might have gotten the old version by accident. But I should check if it was possible to loosen the little pipe joining the down pipes, and thereby adjusting my way out of this. I'll give it a try tomorrow night.

If you had the old version, I don't think you would have this problem. The old version was bigger diameter also. Adjusting the downpipes I think will have little effect: let us know how you get on!
See other thread on 'Clearance issues', particularly photos, to identify which pipes you have.....

I had a look yesterday as that was the first time I had been out to the garage this year.

The stand clears the link pipe by a few millimetres. Tbh I hadn't noticed this before as I was more concerned with the chain and swing arm clearance.

Not a problem for me at this time as there's no play in my side stand.
