"How to remove Rev-Limiter Piasini ECU"

How to remove Rev-Limiter Piasini ECU

Well this mod has been a long time coming. With the resources of Richard I was put in contact with Christian from R&D Piasiniengineering who specializes in remapping & engine performance tuning. Christian took up the challenge of remapping a standard XT660X ECUs to move the rev limiter up in the rev range, after a few months of info back & forwards, Kris my mate here in Brisbane sent his standard ECU to Christian looking for a 8000 rpm rev limiter, it was remapped & sent back within a week.

http://www.piasiniengineering.com/

Kris & I had it on the dyno this morning & this was the results we got, a new rev range up 7700 rpm where a standard XT's ECU has never gone before, Standard is 7200 RPM this is a worlds first for the XT660, remapping a standard ECU.

I did hit one problem with the Power Commander after the new rev limiter was done & that was it can only be mapped to 7500 RPM with the XT660's Power Commander, with a quick email to Martin at Dynojet UK & he sent me a 10K RPM base map to load into the PCIII & that sorted that problem. There was no problem mapping the new rev range between 7200 & 7700 RPM with the PCIII.

Here is the dyno run with a before & after remap.

The ECU was flashed to the blelow spec's
Advance +3 degree on all the range
Fuel +3% from 1000 to 6000, and -2% from 7000 up to revlimiter
Adjust revlimiter to my guess to 8000
Nothing else

Kris's build.
Standard motor 04 XTX
Stage 2 Hot cam
K&N + stage 2 DNA filter, snorkel removed.
Cans
PCIII

With this new rev range we will see bigger HP XT's come out of the wood work. Christian will be able to set your rev limiter any where you want it.

I would like to thank Christian for his help on this matter & look forward to future remapping developments with his company.

Kris will be along later to tell you what he thinks of his new rev range. :smilies0349:

The cost: 440 euro - 25% = 330 euro (included shipment back with UPS express)[/font]

What a Changed Power Curve from STD Rev Limit, and To be Able To use The Over run of the Stage 2 cam, Its so much more fun to ride.

A Big Thanks To Kev & Christian for All Of There Help.

PIASINI ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well you two....a world first for XT660's............how cool is that?:bunny:

You have just beaten me to it too! Doh!

Firstly Kris, you have a great result for your dyno, as I see you only had DNA 1+2. I bet you are chuffed to bits with that.

Did the new ECU have a rev-limiter on it?

And did it rev up to 8000?

Kris's XT can now pull an extra 7.5 MPH (12KPH) in 3rd gear with the new rev limiter, it out pulls my XT in every gear up top. I don't think you will find many XT660 pulling 90 MPH in 3rd gear.

We could not have done it without your help Richard so you are also included in this great find, it took a few people to get to the first ECU been remapped.

richardsracingmad 26-02-11 05:10

By going over the cam,or revving it higher, you can now keep the engine "on cam".............

richardsracingmad 26-02-11 05:16

Kev....we needed you on this first test......as it was unknown territory.........

So, a big cam is now a much more viable project in the XT now......:loser:

Kev 26-02-11 05:21

O yes mate for sure, I want a 5050 cam from my next project if I decide to get another XT next year. Daniels cam has been the best all rounder I have seen on paper & with this mod your bike is going to fly.

This new mod offers you to carry the HP even higher & achieve greater HP's. The only draw back is we need to stay safe with the rev range, I personally would fit stronger springs if I were to rev over 8500rpm. But then you would need a bigger cam to get there which would require a bigger spring change anyway.

richardsracingmad 26-02-11 05:21

I think we will now see a bit more of this, in future XT projects...I'm showing you this as it is the same camshaft as yours Kris, but a different spec. But look at where the max power is, compared to where the Standard XT rev limiter comes in at 7200.

STAGE 2 HOTCAM VS. STAGE 3 HOTCAM..just a different build. (Raptor 700 with 12:1 CP Piston, Stock Valves+timing+throttle body, cylinder milled .050"

I wouldn't want to run that high a compression, and it probably wouldn't work on petrol pump fuel....but it is a very cheap mod to do, relatively speaking of course. We know that the Hotcams do need a piston of around 11:1-11.5:1......and that is something that would be perrrrrfect in a XT.

Yes I am very happy with the result and I am looking forward to my next mods now: Stage 3 air box, Stage 3 Cam, +3mm Throttle body, 105.5 Big Bore kit & Some head porting,+1 valves, +4mm headers, Also i am changing my front springs and lowering is a must after riding kev's bike.!!!(what a weapon!)
