MTC exhausts - review
 

Hi All
Finally I got some time to write my 2 cents about the MTC cans from the UK.

I ordered the cans before I knew there was a discount - when I mentioned it they immediately wired me the 10% via PayPal - sweet!

When putting the rubbered metal things on slide them from the end of the can as the metal can make marks in the can itself.. I got a tiny scratch doing exactly that.

After a few weeks vacation (2 weeks in Florida for me and 10 days of being stolen going who knows where) I came back to my bike and could get to the fitting.

Removing the originals was easy peasy - exept for the fact that I did not have an allen wrench that fit... after buying and breaking a Bahco T-handle I had to go to my brothers place and have him help loosen the bolts... And off they came!

And then came the fitting... could not see how I would be able to fit the cans without any spacers to move the cans a bit out from the bike - and spent lots of time looking through tool boxes and stuff to find something to use. I live in an appartment building and had to go up and down to 4th floor several times... Finally I found out the cans could get fitted without spacers... DOH!
However the alignment was really difficult to get right.
Seen from the back the connect pipes were not completely mirrors of each other - this gave some problems with one of the sides - dont know if that is how its supposed to be...

Finally got the cans on and the two metal thingys holding it to the bike - getting them straight was a pain in the.... but finally got them on. I am not a very patient person so gave up after they were aligned like this

For some reason one is a bit longer than the other - but who cares... It actually got a bit worse after having to add another part later (see under Sound-section)

Sound:
... yummy yummy - but very loud!
After riding for a while my ears were ringing and I was a bit tired of the sound - a bit of a bummer as I like the look and to actually being able to hear the bike when riding. On top of the bummer of the too loud sound the following depression for actually realizing I have now become so old that stuff can be too loud was even worse... Had to use earplugs and still had a headache after riding :(. This actually prompted me to buy some real molded earplugs to keep my hearing intact :).

Contacted MTC and they sent me (without charge) some metal round plate things with holes I could fit between the connect pipes and the can itself - that was done yesterday - of course forgetting to take a photo... sorry.

When first firing the bike up there was a lot of rattling and clanking as the metal thing settled itself in. This helped a lot and I can now ride without earplugs for a while (initial estimate).
Maybe the plates they should be shipped with the can always?
I wanted to measure the dB with stock, MTCs without small plate and with - but only got to measuring the final setup with the small plates at 93-94 dB idling and 109 reving a bit. Quite noisy experiment when living in the centre of copenhagen ;o).

Hope this helps you other guys in deciding if you want MTC cans --> I highly recommend them - WITH the small extra sound-dampening plate - so ask for that when ordering. I dont actually know if there is a cat in these cans or if that is in the connecter pipes or headpipes??
The service especially gets a 10 out of 10 rating from me.

I will do some minor adjustments to the review later on if needed.

I don't quite understand the difference. Are both db killers, and the one that comes with the can you fit in the back? And the one between pipes and can was not included?

I think the one with a picture is the "normal" dB killer - that goes in the back end of the can. The other ones were not included in the package - but MTC sent them immediately after I said they were a bit too loud.
It took the high pitched smack sound off the pipes - will try to upload some sound files later on.
From MTC:
"They are classed as road legal however your bike is very loud once having any after market cans fitted. If you send me your address we can send you a couple of gauzes out that you slip in to the inlet end of your cans which will take a bit more of the noise away from them."

Ok, I guess two db killers do more than only one then :)

I wonder how much those hinder the exhaust flow, in regards to gaining hp?

Not as much as the original cans that's for sure. I wouldn't worry too much.
