Hi & Welcome to the Forum.:family:I've not ridden a restricted xt before, but when I came back to biking 8 or 9 years ago I bought a ER5 off a friend which was restricted. I rode that for a while restricted and it was fine. The main difference after derestricting was all top end. For general day to day stuff it wasn't much different. I would guess the xt would be very simular to that experience. Hope that helps. :ytiller:

the bloke at the dealer said all i would lose would be top end but was just unsure due to the fueling problems, they will give me the unrestricted ecu with the bike aswell so if it is unbearble then i could swap it back, but dont want to risk it really

The restriction doesn't depend from the ECU it's a small plate that prevents the throttle cable to fully open up.

well according to the dealer its the ecu, which costs around 100 pounds, he said about the throttle cable but then found the restricted ecu in his parts list.

I had a restricted Honda deauville 650, it was fine really until you got to 5k revs then it just didnt rev any more, this wasnt too bad as 5k revs was the max torque. The only thing was the deauville was very very heavy so in windy conditions it was pretty dead, and for over takes it had to be very planned. Also if you wanted to go touring you had to pack light. I ended up taking it out for a 2wk touring trip to europe and it never went back in.
Normally a restrictor is either a stop on the throttle (which is what i thought the XT was) or a plate either in the air intake or in the exhaust pipe. Never heard of an ECU one:100: |
