Hi there, I had to go through all of the hastle to get my bike restricted, here is what I found:

One Yamaha dealer I spoke to said they would fit the official Yamaha part, which consists of some kind of washer arrangements. They wanted 63 for the kit (part number: kit-xt660-25-kw), and around 55 for an hours labour. However they did not have the part in stock, and said the distributors said it would take around 3 weeks to get it........I was certainly NOT prepared to wait that long till I can ride this beast lol.

Other independent bike garages said that they would fit the fiinternational kit (part number 05-DM01-K25) as seen on the website: http://www.fiinternational.com
/ShowDetails.asp?name=XT660X&type=

The actual prices for the kit varied from garage to garage, from 150 through to the full price as shown on the website of 172.99, and each garage would charge an hours labour, so around 50.

The fiinternational kit is a metal bracket on the throttle slide on the gear selector side of your bike, preventing the throttle from being opened all the way up, pic to come in a bit....

So all in all, your dealer is talking rubbish as I rang around A LOT of places to find out what different choice of restriction I can get, and how much they cost. It will cost you around 200-250 if you go down the throttle restrictor plate route, or about 120 if you go down the official yamaha washer route (although only one dealer told me about this route, at first I thought they had got it wrong but the part number they gave me seems to add up).

Hope this has helped!

Thanks Harry, this is the kit we are aware of & have seen been fitted a few times by restricted riders. I would make my own for those prices.

As for the ECU I have never heard of a restricked ECU & it is not listed in any parts catalog from 2004 to 2009 that I have.

I have a restricted XTZ, probably the only one around here.
My top speed is around 145-150km/h (havent got higher that 145 at 5500rpm)

I havent got it at full power yet, i will remove the restrictor in june (holiday in france :D)

Yes it is a horrendous price for a piece of metal that fits in the palm of your hand! I was under the impression that the restrictor has to be improved by someone or other, I got given various certificates. Although I suppose as long as a homemade one did the job properly there is no way they (police, insurers) could argue your bike is not restricted, the dyno never lies! lol

It will do the job for you trust, I had my bike with a restrictor for 2 years and now I have it off it can get to the same speed just alot faster:BaseballHat_LNY2EG:

My bike is also restricked, it needs a bigger bore, stroker crank & +1mm valves, that should loosen it up.

Kev, that's nothing... lol my bike is so restricted it's almost not there anymore... wait... IT IS NOT there!! :smilies0974:

I could only manage pics from this angle due to not having enough hands to hold the torch, hold the camera, hold the air tubes out of the way, and hold the bike up with my knee lol.

The red lines outline the restrictor, one of the most expensive tiny pieces of metal you can get for your xt lol! The yellow curve shows how it works.

For what is charged for these thing their has to be some good money to be made producing them for a damn site cheaper. I mean how much can these cost to make if you have a half way decent metalwork shop.
