Tenere Rack

I've had a number of rear racks of my own design produced to fit the Ten, see the pic below.

The rack is CNC machined from 4mm 5251 grade aluminium, anodised silver.
The 4 standoff posts are turned from 1050 grade ally.
Bolts nuts & washers are zinc plated steel.

I had 10 made, of which five are still available, price is 43, plus postage. Depending on demand future batches will be larger.

more pics will follow when i've had a chance to take them in daylight.

please PM me if you are interested.

MODS - if i've done wrong by posting this here, please move. :)

Stinky Pete 28-04-09 22:31

That is a damn fine looking rack.
Too late for me unfortunately I bought a givi one for my top box.

Are you planning on an engine or rectifier guard?
Or even something to tidy the rear end up using existing bolt holes and indicators?

neil4022 28-04-09 22:47

Hi There .

Just bought a rack from metal mule and yours look the fantastic and very well made , have you got any pictures of it on your bike.

Regards neil4022 :Gangsta2_9BI664:

Peatbog 28-04-09 23:03

Stinky - watch this space is all I can say for now :)

Neil - I have pics of the prototype, on the computer at home, i'll post them when i get home tonight.

Stinky Pete 28-04-09 23:37

Sounds good looking forward to it.

coxwain 28-04-09 23:46

ive got my rear rack from pete tonight and will fit it tomorrow its a very well made bit of kit well worth the money :bounce016:

stoo24 29-04-09 10:18

Looks very good and I'm tempted but I'm wondering what a black anodised one will look like on the bike. There are a few black anodised fangles at www.ruggedroads.com if you look under KTM 950 stuff. No Yamaha gear there yet and your price is good so you could get some good business here. All the best.

Peatbog 29-04-09 10:24

i seriously considered black, but those i asked preferred silver. if there is enough interest i could consider splitting the next batch into the two colours.

anyone else for black?

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 29-04-09 10:46

That's a nice piece of engineering there - So why, when you can do it for a modest sum, do MM and TT charge much higher prices? and they have the benefit of economies of scale.

I purchased a 1200GS rack (a TT one) from fleabagbay (25), and manufactured a mounting from nylon block so that the rack sits in the same mounting points as the Yam top box. Give me the benefit of removing it and putting the box on - takes 2 minutes to swap.

I've also just completed a prototype for lamp mounts that bolt to the same fixing as the front subframe (headlight etc). I'll throw some pics up when it's fitted (waiting for a M8x60 SS bolt to arrive!)

jasext 29-04-09 12:05

TT do two versions,50 for a small and 57 for a large so they are'nt that expensive and as i live quite close it would work out roughly the same as i dont have to pay p&p with the tt stuff

That maybe so but Pete has them in stock!

Sorry, I though that they were nearer the 80 mark, never mind Pete's are still 20% cheaper though, and in stock!

tenere doug 29-04-09 12:48

Bogatech?

Pete, it looks like you're onto something here! Can you do a sump guard? Or maybe a tail-tidy? :smilies0943:

do they have stock?

EDIT - stinky beat me to it.

Doug - Stinky Pete already asked me that, all i can say is watch this space....

stuxtttr 29-04-09 17:11

Neat rack wished I'd have waited would much sooner give a member of the site business than touracrap. Mine was on order from NOV. I would have gone for black given the choice:eusa_clap:

jasext 29-04-09 20:44

Now that i agree with ,i ordered a headlight protecter and they told me it would be definetly in with 2 weeks , 4 weeks later it arrived

Very nice piece of work i must admit Pete ,but as i am in no rush and short of funds at present i will probably wait

Keep up the good work though

Peatbog 29-04-09 21:56

Cheers for the feedback so far folks.

Here's pics of the rack on my bike, as promised.

This last one shows the bottom of the M6 bolts at the rear, i've supplied a couple of nuts as lock nuts. The M6 allen bolts have a quite small hex socket which can be easily rounded off, so rather than try to wind the bots in real tight you can just nip them and then lock them off below with the nuts. The M8 bolts at the front of the rack don't have this problem as they have an 'adult size' hex socket!

Gary117 29-04-09 23:16

Very smart looking Rack.

Just fitted my Givi rack, or i would have been up for one. :thumbsup[1]:

Now, I once posted a picture on this site, in the autum when the garden was full of leaves. One or two members (who shall remain nameless) pointed out the state of the garden. So I feel it's only fair to say;

Get the Bl00dy Grass cut!!

:laughing11::laughing11::laughing11: if you saw the rest of the garden mate, you'd agree the grass is the smallest job on the list! only moved in about 7 months ago- been overhaulin' the house since, and the garden gets used as a dumping ground at the mo. having said that it is a ridiculously big garden and when i build my garage its gonna be a healthy 6m x 9m so its worth the wait

see, no matter what women say, size really is important. Mine's 10' x 26', and I've a 10' x10' workshop on the end, and if I doubled it, it still wouldn't be big enough!

You're gonna need a bigger space to fit the Lathe, CNC Plasmer Cutter, Press and work areas in, what about Goods In and Despatch areas too ??

Peatbog 01-05-09 21:28

Black!

Black is coming soon....

As there has been more interest than expected for black racks, both on here and by PM/email i've brought forward the next batch of 10 and they will all be anodised BLACK. Once i have an estimated delivery date i'll post it here.

Anyone who is interested please PM me and i'll make sure i contact you once i have them ready, that way you cant miss out. I think i've replied to all the messages i've had so far for postage quotes etc, if i've missed you out please let me know, it's not intentional but juggling a 50hr a week job, a house overhaul and a small sideline in adventure products gets confusing after about 10 minutes!

Thanks to all for the feedback and suggestions so far - all appreciated, those who have ordered so far should have theirs soon as all orders have been posted, i wanna see pics on here guys!

Pete

Sorry Pete I only just saw this post after putting my pics here >>>> http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=10163

Peatbog 01-05-09 22:56

No probs at all Barry, Nice to see your pics and I'm glad you're happy with it. :icon_pirat:

stevied1969 02-05-09 08:49

Just fitted my luggage rack, superb bit of kit that I can't recommend enough. Makes the bike a lot more touring friendly by giving a secure tie down base for tents etc.

Top job Pete :deathmetal[1]:

Hi Pete,

Definitely up for a black rack. What's the postage charge please?

Cheers
Mark

Peatbog 02-05-09 10:42

Nice pics Steve, glad you're pleased with it :)

Cr3sp0 - P&P within the uk is 4.50 by RoyalMail 1st class recorded.

For anyone else who's curious, P&P outside the UK, but in the EU is 6.

Stinky Pete 03-05-09 14:08

I do hope your new design water pump protector looks as pretty!
As seeing damage from thread in general its top of my want one list.

zOU 03-05-09 21:31

PM sent for Black (just to confirm the demand for that color)

Thank you for what looks like an excellent work at a bargain price!

zOU 05-05-09 15:42

looking forward the next batch as I've a trip to italy planned in June :D

Peatbog 05-05-09 16:39

Black ones went to the anodisers today, i'll let you know when they're back.

Skunkmoto 06-05-09 14:36

Can you bring a black one to the lakes? if they're back in time and there's one spare?

Peatbog 06-05-09 20:18

If they're back in time i will, but i'd be very surprised if they are.

got 5 silver still available tho if anyone else at the lakes fancies one bringing.

Pete

JMo 14-05-09 10:04

I'm so pleased to see ho happy everyone is with Pete's design - having seen it up close (the rack, not pete, you fools...) at the lakes last weekend it exactly the sort of product development we should supporting.

It is the perfect size IMO - between the small (useless) and large (tea tray) Touratech offerings, and the finish is every bit as good or better than anything else on the market. it is also a few quid cheaper (and now available in two colours) so it's a win win win all round - why would you buy anything else now these are on the market?

If we chose support independent designers/manufacturers like Pete, hopefully it will be incentive for him to come up with equally good products for other aspect of our bikes (as have already been suggested here).

xxx

(that doesn't sound like too much of a sucky-up advert does it?!)

Hear Hear!

Barry.

stuxtttr 14-05-09 19:42

Too right I wont buy any more Touracrap, MM are still alright in my book but they did put up the price of their chain guard from a reasonable rouchly 30 odd to nearly 70. :066: daylight robbery

Peatbog 15-05-09 16:36

Thanks for the encouragement folks :toothy6:

Good news is, black ones arrived today - see the pic below.

Those who have expressed an interest will receive a PM from me when i finish work.

A slight discrepancy at manufacturing level means i actually have 8 in this batch not 10. 5 of these are reserved (although no-one is under any obligation) so i have 3 black ones still up for grabs.

I also have 2 silver still left.

Black Tail Rack - nuts & bolts not shown but obviously will be included.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3345/...g?v=1242397119

as usual, any enquiries by PM please.

Pete

Skunkmoto 15-05-09 16:55

Looks good Pete, just need a tail pack to put on it now.
