Getting on XT660Z

Xtz660z.
Loving the riding position, and don't want to lower the bike. When getting on with hepco and baker cases fitted I kick hell out of boxes, seat tail plate , everything generally. Is the stand strong enough for fat old me to stand on the peg while getting on?

Not looking very graceful at the moment, and needless damage being done.

Any tips/ advice on mounting appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

I've had my Z for 4 years and have used it daily. I also climb aboard from the left foot rest whilst it's on its side stand when the boxes are on or when I have a shopping bag under the spider net on the pillion seat which is most of the time. It's also the way I get off.

The stand is strong and it hasn't loosened the stand fitment within the bracket. I weigh 95Kg and am 6 foot tall but my personal height and inside leg has never made it easy getting on and off when the bike is carrying something.

I did fit a 'big foot' for the stand's base plate which is something I wish I'd done from day one. It makes the bike so more stable when I'm dancing all over it.

Same here....I hop on and off mine with the sidestand down...no worries with wear on the sidestand at all! . It's just one of the minor issues with a tall bike like the Tenere. ...those moments in sloping car parks with fellow bikers watching when you know you are in danger of the Tenere Topple! Steve

Thanks folks- glad it's not just me. Might look into getting a big foot. Sounds like money well spent.

Thanks again

I'm 6ft and have the TT high seat and a tail pack on all the time, I just sort of hurdle between the tank and the tailpack with my right leg and hotch over a little bit before pulling the bike upright. Works from the right hand side as well if you if your supple.
Pretty much works for any bike that's loaded up with luggage or has a high seat height.
Centrestand approach requires properly firm and level ground, I'll let you guess why I never go that route anymore, often amounts to more than just a red face and a loaded bike to pick up.

Hahahah.... yes the 'Tenere walk'

Standing on the pegs is fine, and works, but not so if you are in a field!

So, here's another method, I'll do my best to describe it right...

Face the left side of the bike,
You put your right leg on the seat (in a sort of goose step fashion)
hop on your left moving towards the bike....
Slide your right leg down to the peg, and your there.

Or,
before swinging your leg over the bike, bend your leg so your boots are up in the air, it's how I get on/off a bloodbike without marking the panniers.

However you do it... it always looks a bit comical
