Side Panels, new on old
Hi, will the side panels off a 2010x fit the 2006x ?

I think so yes, the bike has changed very little over the years.

(Now sold on, sob) 2011 Blue XT660X with gold wheels, was 26,500 km. Engine mods: K&N Stage 1 filter, DNA Stage 2 filter, snorkel removed, Kev fuel mod fitted. Plus: smoked Puig screen, Yam aluminium sump guard, Yamaha / Acerbis handguards, Givi Trekker aluminium side cases, Leo Vince X3 cans plus Kev front fork mod and Fender Xtender. Just fitted Michelin Road Pilot 3 tyres. SOLD the XTX for a Super Ten 1200. And just bought a Raptor 700 so staying on here for some tips.... |

Although the mounting lugs and the bolt holes will line up (the frame is the same), the 2010 XTX side panel won't fit a 2006 XTX as each end (where it meets the tail section and tank panels) is a completely different shape on the later XTXs to accommodate the new tail and tank panel design. The later side panels also have different contours as well.
However, 2010 XTR side panels will fit a 2006 XTX as they never changed altered the bodywork on the R. |

But are there not 3 mounting holes on the XTX from 2007 with the new panels? I have XTX panels on my 2007 XTR and it is big differents also with the mounting to the sidepanels who goes under the saddle.

For future reference (if anyone else queries panel interchangeability) here are the part numbers for the two kinds of panel and what years/models they apply to:
