Metzler Sahara 3 Enduro Tyres

I recently had a set of Metzler Sahara 3 Enduro Tyres fitted to my 660 Tenere.

I have been riding on Continental TKC 80's since my last trip to Morocco.

What a revelation. I feel so much more confident on wet roads (our wonderful English summer!!!).

Cornering and braking on wet roads, drain covers and painted road markings is so much better.

Not had a chance to go off-road yet. I know they won't be quite so good as the TKC's, but since I ride 80% or more on road with only the occasional foray onto green lanes, I am pretty happy with the switch at the moment.

Excellent on road, I am much more confident in the wet than I was on TKC's.

Seem OK on dry and damp tracks. Not so good in wet/deep mud, but then even TKC'S get clogged and the low front mudguard causes more of a problem in really bad mud!

If you ride 80% on road with occasional fair weather off road excursions, then I can highly recommend these tyres.

I wish I had used them on my trip to Morocco last year. They would have been so much better than TKC's on the long motorway ride through Spain, and I am am sure they would have coped perfectly with the unmade roads and piste sections we did.

Many thanks for the info Nick. I need to replace my Conti Escapes soon and have been looking at Enduro3's. I assume you fitted a 130 to the rear? I fitted a 140 TT conti last time as was well pleased as it had a better radius when worn down but noticed they only do a 130 in TT but do a 140 in TL. So was wondering whether to fit a 140TL Enduro3 (with a tube of course).

Most of my riding will be road but I do fancy using it on legal tracks, I have a quad and L200 I use for gamekeepering and woodland work, so plenty of off roading but the estate owners are a bit touchy about me taking a enduro bike out.

TL tyres are fine on the Ten, in fact the rear wheel is a tubeless type with the extra inner lip. I've run Dunlop Trialmax in TL fitting front and rear, and have also used a 140/80TL TKC on the rear with no issues (but as you say - with a tube ) 140TL Enduro3 should be fine, but the Metzlers do wear very fast though on the black stuff!

Just to update I brought a set of 'enduro3' with a 140 TT rear. When fitting the rear tyre I had a problem - I had 1/2 fitted the tyre and tried to fit the inner tube valve in but the tyre walls were so stiff I couldn't do it, I felt I need a Gynaeological tool to keep the tyre open ( I had fitted the previous 140 Conti ok). So I took the tyre off, fitted the valve first and carefully fitted the tyre 1/2 on over the valve, and finished off as per normal. front no problem, both tyres now running ok, first impression is good but need to put on some more miles on dryer roads.

Is there a trick I have missed when fitting tyres?
