I also used to get around the 220 miles to reserve, then fitted a DNA filter and Kev mod set @4 o clock. The troubler is that I can now get power from 2500rpm and the torque seems to be more apparent. I have an MTC single can as well and the sound on hard acceleration is possitively addictive, hence I now only get late 190's to 200 to the gallon but the smile is bigger!
Problem now is that I can rip up a TKC in about 2500 miles Your call!

My story is....
Got the stage 2 DNA and Kev's fuel mod at 4 o'clock with twin MTC pipes and I get around 180 on my normal commute. I regularly go 50 miles on reserve but last time I risked it to 60 there was about a litre and a bit still in.
My working out gives me approx 10.8 miles to the litre on short trafficey runs and more like 11.5 - 12 miles to the litre on longer smoother runs. I do a rough calculation in my head of 10 miles to the litre (for easy maths) and that always gives me a head room to not run out of fuel (so far anyway). Before the mods it was 220 - 230 before reserve and 280 - 300 range which is more like 13 miles to the litre. I'm no way going back to standard for a mile a litre!!! I'm happy with the way it rides now. |

So it seems most people use theres set at the 4 o'clock position, which poduces slightly lower MPG.
So if you were going on a long motorway trip or any ride were your just mile munching....could you just set turn it dont to zero? so your bike would be back to standard? |

The XT660 motor does not get the best fuel consumption when the A/F ratio is around 14:1 to 14,7:1, if you want the best fuel economy + extra HP & torque then you need to an A/F ratio of 13,6:1, for max HP & torque you aim for 13.2:1.

Hi all, not one for monitoring fuel and distance thingies but i've fitted the Kev Mod and set it at 6oclock and noticed a big differance riding , but whats that going to do to the fuel consumsion as it seems most of you set yours at 4oclock !!!!

You're not alone - I've also got mine set a 6 and average 57/58 to the gallon, dropping to 55 if I ride hard and nudging 60 if I'm bimbling around. In hot weather (above 20C) I'll go down to 5 o'clock and below 10C I run it at 7 o'clock as the effects of the series wired variable resistor on the air temperature sensor readings aren't linear.
Interestingly, before the fuel mod/DNA filter (in stock trim) I averaged exactly the same! However, that isn't exactly conclusive as the motor has loosened up somewhat since modifying the filtering and fuelling. Don't bother much with the fuel gauge these days - I just fill up around 200 miles on the trip regardless. Now I come to think of it, I spent the first 20 years of motorcycling on bikes without fuel gauges and I never ran out once! |

Ive upped mine around to6/7 o clock. Not sure but feels smoother than 4. Should it go further around when its cold ???

I have the Yamaha diagnostic tool which enables you to read the air intake temperature value the ECU is being sent, which helped a lot setting up the fuelling mod.
In order to maintain the same differential between real ambient and measured intake temperature (in other words fooling the ECU to think its colder than it is) you do have to increase the setting as temperatures drop. Generally its not a massive issue as ambient temperatures in the UK don't vary greatly, so realistically you'd be OK and within range keeping it the same. However, it becomes more of an issue at the extremes: If ambient temperatures drop below -5 you do need to start dialling in much bigger increases in additional resistance to gain the same level of "ECU fooling" you had at say 20C. The same applies if you get temperatures above 30C, but it goes the other way, the resistance needs reducing in much bigger steps. Having said all that, just dial in whatever makes the bike feel best and you won't be far wrong! |

Well just filled her up again after fuel light came on yesterday at 162 miles and it got filled at 172 miles... I know I dont need to do it that early, but Im checking it out over a period so I know where I am , and Ive put in 17.12 lits. So my calcs have got it at 45.5 mpg, this has been with 60 ish miles of constant M/way and then stop start commute stuff, so Im going to work on 200 miles is a good time to start thinking of finding fuel from now on. I would also guess that warmer sunny days........... if we ever get them, improvements will come !!

Fuel is less dense on warm days ... so you are likely to get a worse figure as the energy per liter will be lower. Although I wouldn't like to measure the difference!
