need advice on ktm hand gaurds

Hi all just tryed to fit ktm hand gaurds and to do so i removed the the horizontal beam then fitted the right hand gaurd, then moved on to the left and the advice on other threads is to move the clutch/mirror bracket to the right slightly, but this causes the the contour of the clutch lever to come in contact with the switch gear. im thinkin i might just leave it till next payday and get some barkbusters or somthing along them lines...

(the only reason i brought the ktm ones was that the general concensus was that they fitted well with some modding and were only 40 wich is half the price of most others, genuine yam ones are 140+)

I fitted the same guards to my Tenere a few months ago. It takes a little while but you can get them on without much moving around of the switchgear, etc.
From memory i had to slide the clutch lever a little to the right to stop it rubbing the inside of the guard. I think i may have also reversed the brackets for the cross brace......i could be wrong about that bit.
If you search the forum you should find quite a few posts from people who have fitted them, some say you need to 'trim' the guards but i can assure you that you don't.

just cut the clutch and brake levers down slightly so they don't foul the guards

I have them fitted.

On the right side you have to cut a bit around the brake fluid reservoir, otherwise they'll be tilted forward. On the left side I used them about 1wk just moving the clutch lever/left mirror a bit towards the center but the end of the clutch lever still touched the handguard so it had a bit of a spring effect. In the end i filed a bit of the clutch lever so that i could move back the lever/mirror. I think i filed about 8mm. Clutch goes down to the grip now, mirror is back where it should so i don't see my shoulder in it.

The major advantage I see for the KTM handguards is that you can keep the weights. Price would be good too. I think they look good and they are rigid enough, I only fitted them for minimal weather protection and to protect against branches, not for really hard stuff.
