yes, because there's a hole for air, so petrol flows out when the bike is not upright

My bike is only 2500 miles old and the cush drive looked as bad as yours. I did the Kev mod last weekend, though yesterday was the first test ride.

My view is that rather than excessive wear they just looked (extremely) cheaply moulded and not formed properly in the first instance. I used rubber pond liner, a little bit thicker than inner tube, with a bit of talcum powder, making it a breeze to slip it all back together.

The test ride proved very smooth, and a lot of jerkiness (that I thought may have been a fuelling problem) was evidently the cush drive not originally working as it should.

Great fix Kev - thank you

I used some flexible pvc screening normally used in welding bays. Bit thicker than inner tubes but very easy to cut and shape.

Finally got around to doing mine this morning.
Avo's post reminded me I had some spare pond liner rubber lying around so I used that.
Riding through the village at 30mph is possible now without the bike shaking itself to bits. MUCH smoother than it was before.

When I took the wheel off I noticed some furry corrosion around the spindle hole in the swing arm.
This is what I found when I took out the chain adjusters. Lots of corrosion and salt crystals

The one on the left has been wirebrushed. I coated them with grease before refitting.
