Lower Handlebar Mountings

(for the Tenere)

In my quest to transform a good bike into a great bike, I'm looking at the handlebars, to be more precise the handlebar mountings.

I fitted a set of bar risers last night, and I've noticed alot more bar movement since fitting them. Now before I start to strip down the mounting assembly I just wondered had anyone done this before and could they answer a query?

Is there any rubber in the assembly at all ? the reason I ask is that there is movement between the Upper Bracket (4) and the Lower Handlebar Holder (1). With a set of 30mm risers this is much more noticable, possibly to the extent that I may remove the risers and look to go for new bars instead.

Or is it possible that the lower nuts on the Lower Handlebar Holder are a little loose ? But at 32Nm they aren't the tightest in the first place!

I guess I'll find out tonight, but in the meantime, have you had it to bits ?? any comments ??
