Help- engine light on

I'm currently in Morocco and all of a sudden the engine management light (second from right) has started coming on. It blinks on and off twice for a second each time, then blinks quickly twice. Is that supposed to be some code or something?

The manual wasn't exactly useful. Said to take it to a dealer to check things out.

The weather is quite hot (30c) but I'm riding easy and it happened this morning as well when it was cool.

The other thing that might have some bearing is that I have a DNA stage 2 airfilter together with Kev's fuel mod, but without the gubbins that he didn't have in stock at the time (I think it's the 02 eliminator). I seem to remember reading that the reason for the eliminator was to prevent the engine management light coming on, but it's actually been fine for several thousand km.

Advice welcome!
Tim

check the plug to the airbox temp sensor or the leads of the Kev mod that you have hooked into it. I think the engine light does that if there is no signal from the temp sensor.

Hi Tim - I had a look at the workshop manual (what do you mean you don't have the PDF on a netbook with you?!) and it seems that two long flashes followed by two short flashes would indicate fault code 22, which, as duibhcek suggests, relates to the Intake air temperature sensor...

It suggests there is an open or short circuit detected, but the bike will run in failsafe at 20C - which is probably pretty close to the temp you're at in Morocco at the moment anyway?!

A dodgy connection or faulty sensor is the likely culprit...

Tim can you make sure the connection from the fuel mod to the Yamaha wiring loom is fitted securely & is making good contact.

If it is making good contact, disconnect the fuel mod & connect the wiring back to standard using the connector block that is supplied with the mod. This will eliminate the fuel mod. If the light still stays on after this we will do some other checks.

Let me know how you get on.
