GPS malarky

Ey up

I am fitting a C60sx to the XTZ and need to order the mount for my ram system. Want to fit it to the bar for the GPS behind the screen but need to know the diameter of it to get the right clamp/insert etc.
Cause I am stuck oot in the North sea at the mo could one of you very nice chaps / chapettes let me know ,,Thanks

Also whats the definitive answer on running a supply for it
The aux supply plug behind the light rubber ?? If so can I get a plug to match it??

Will post some pics of the thing once I get the Hella DE`s , Peatbog rack , touratech fuel can mount and GPS fitted

Hi Brads - the bar above the instruments is 12mm - you can get a Ram adaptor insert that will fit that (basically it's the same diameter as the brace bar on the handlebars)...

The power socket behind the instruments is fine for running the GPS - it's switched with the ignition, and fused on the side-light circuit (10 amps), so you might want to keep the inline fuse holder you get with the GPS cable, as most Garmins only run a 1 or 2 amp fuse...

There is no opposite connector I know of available, but if you get some mini spade connectors (male), they snuggle in there a treat, and you can put a length of shrink wrap over the whole caboodle, which is what I've done...

I've got one (the insert) somewhere in the workshop - you can have it !

But I would advise that you make yourself a bracket that extends out from the GPS bar, rather than using the RAM adapter and the 12mm insert. The reason ? It's crap!!

I had the same setup (that's why I've got the insert) but the vibration on the GPS bar, and the RAM extension means you can't actually read the GPS....

something like this :

Aye

Thanks for that. Although I`ve already ordered the mount and insert( dirt cheap,,buybits.com)
I got the ram mount second hand for a tenner so I`m not too worried aboot havin a play around with it. Might make up a clamp for the 12mm bar and ally weld the ram ball to it ! The ram arm should hold it out far enough and if I can secure it solidly enough I reckon it will do the biz, if not I`ll flog it an get the Touratech thingy.

Talking of which ,,the fog lights they flog for 300 nicker,,,I got them for 60 quid from a local factors, homemade brackets and 40 for the guards,,hey presto! (suspect I may wait for the guards tho)

The TT mount isn't any better than the Garmin Mount (with the security screw fastened), and in any case the Garmin mount fits into the TT mount, I picked the anti-vibration mount because of my experience with the RAM and the 12mm insert.

I made up a bracket with some ally plate I had lying around, then fixed the TT mount and Garmin mount to that.

I have the normal Garmin mount on my lane bike and I've never lost the Zumo from it, so the TT one doesn't provide any extra security really.
