I think this is in the wrong section, I'm sure the captain will be along to guide it to safe waters !
There are loads of threads on the Yamaha OEM panniers. It realy depends on what you intend using it for. I had it (full set) and took off around Europe with it, it was perfectly servicable and worked very well (once you understand it's short comings) I have since upgraded to Zega Pro's, at 38litre they have a drop of a few litres on the full Yam stuff, and cost about 50 -100 more (can't remember the full cost but it was 8xx) but it's much harder wearing, and you will be able to take it from bike to bike with you - kind of a lifetime purchase! I fitted a rear rack to the bike (mines a TT one from a 1150GS, but the Peatbog ones are the best buys) and then picked up a Touratech tailpack off Ebay for 30, it's a 1150GS one, but it will fit any decent rack. Now I have tones of luggage space! One advantage of the Zega's is that I can strap stuff to the top of them to increase my carrying capacity. On the down side, filtering is an art form as the boxes are as wide as the bars, but as my main use is touring it's not a problem to me. If its carrying your sandwiches/book etc then the Yam OEM stuff is very good, and the narrow profile means you can ride as you normally would. Have a look around in the luggage section, there are lots of reviews for other luggage.

Don't worry peeps, I won't hold it against anyone when something is not posted in the correct section, after all its a dodle to move it in the correct place.
As far as I can read from the other members, despite the very captivating looks the Yamaha original panniers have quite a few problems, the main one being faulty or cheap locks and keys, but also last Sunday at the Ace there was a guy with the original top box which the lock that held in place on the frame kept coming open. It's begger belief imagining that you might have something valuble in there like a laptop onlyfor this to come off at 70mph. Touratec, Hepko & Becker and Metal Mule all do a much more sturdy version even thought compared to the Yamaha ones look spartan, but then who cares when you are travelling in Africa with all your essential kit strapped all over them? |
