clutch casing protector
So I've dropped the XTR a couple of times, both times at slow speed on the grass because the stock tourances are terrible off road... anyway, it's bent my foot brake into the clutch casing leaving tell-tale grooves in the casing. Yeah, it's not a big issue but I noticed that the tenere comes standard with a little protector plate that attaches to the casing, designed specifically to avoid such damage. Great idea, and not sure why they're not standard on the other models! So I inquired at the local Yammie dealer about getting this tiny little protector plate for my R, and they're available but the cost was $69AUD. Massive rip off, as usual for the OEM parts. I thought they'd be about 20 bucks tops.
Does anyone know if anyone on the planet sells these as an aftermarket accessory? |

Thanks Donkey, that was a quick reply! Yes, exactly what I was looking for. Except by the time I do the dollar conversions and the shipping to Oz, it costs more that the OEM version. You Euro guys are lucky to have OTR products so handy!

The Tenere OE fit clutch cover protector is part number: 11D-E5491-00 and it's 18 here in the UK, don't understand why it's so much in Australia?

What happens in Australia is called the exchange rate, the GST (Goods and Services Tax of 10%) and the endemic price gouging performed locally by Yamaha Australia.
Unfortunately I suspect the last reason is the major contributing factor in the overall pricing structure ![]() ![]() Unfortunately the USA doesn't import the XT660 range ... which is just such a crying shame because I generally land parts ex the States for my Super Tenere at a tad over 50% of the local cost. Occasionally I find that with careful use of the parts cross-reference I can often order against other models ... but life would have been well hell of a lot simpler if the States had just come to the party ![]()

Yeah, Platty's got it in one... It's back to that old "buy local, support the local economy" debate (that I think we've vented about on here before). Screw 'em, it's a global economy now and if I can buy significantly cheaper overseas then I'm gonna. Often though, the freight costs seem like a conspiracy too.
Anyway... clutch case protector... I think I'll knock up something aftermarket; I should have a few empty aluminium cans lying around after Christmas ![]() |
