Aha, so you can be our next navigator on next rideout. Go back to the salesman and ask him to do the job properly....

I just hooked it into the leads from the plug behind the dashboard cover. Black and brown wire going into a free plug. Only live when you turn on the key.

hmm, just noticed this was posted in the XTR section. I was talking about an XTZ. Not sure the XTR has a similar plug. You may need to look for another lead to hook into. Sorry 'bout the misunderstanding.

Thanks anyway & will keep checking for a way to connect it, not to kean on running it from the battery directly! Or is this possible/advisable?

Ive got a tom tom on my r, its in a waterproof universal sat nav holder that velcro's to the handlebars. Ive also purchased a duel cigar socket which I've fitted to the handlebars and wired back to the battery with its own inline fuse.
I simply plug the tomtom straight into the cigar socket, its also handy for phone charger and laptop power supply too. It even works my 12volt kettle (but i have to leave the engine running). Sat nav holder 40 Duel cigar socket 6.50 Both off ebay Sorry no pics as I still havent worked out how to get them off my phone on to here
