Not my lucky day. There are some little red plastic caps about 10cm in - presumably to catch any bits that fall loose.

Thanks, Denny, but I'm left a little confused still. I'm looking at this:



are you expecting everything inside the bar to just sort of slip out at this point because the bolt isn't inside holding it tight?

The bolt screws into the central silver threaded bit (duh) then there's the black/tan bit surrounding it with some shiny black cracked stuff in the 3-4 o'clock position which I guess is some left over goo. Then it looks like there's two outer silver sheaths. One is definitely the bar (it's on the outside -- I'm good at this!) but the other could either be the outside of the whole bar insert thingy or a second skin of the bar.

Should I be screwing the bolt most of the way back in then using it to give me some purchase in simply pulling the whole lot out?

In the meanwhile I've given it a good blast with WD40.
