A PCIII is well worth the money, when doing a custom fuel map you are tuning the bike across the whole rev range. In doing this you are going to get the best fuel/power ratio.
If I was you I would get a PCIII from the States & the fit it myself then send it for a custom fuel map, I am sure you will save some money that way.
Just remember that not even a PCIII will completely remove the surging as some of the surging is a characteristic of a big bore thumper.
What year XT do you have & what is the last two numbers of your engine ECU 00, 01 or 10, which is fitted behind your left side cover.
