I guess...... So it's probably still true that bikes that are new still have the 3 year rule, leading up to their 1st test on their 3rd anniversary of registration and everything else will be every 12 months from the date of the last test unless any of these bikes are declared off-road by that Sorn process.
There's always the personal ownership work-arounds where things are made 'just so' for a test and removed / changed back to preferences afterwards but you're probably then at the mercy of the cops in the unlikely event you're stopped or even stopped and the cops noticed or are bothered.
However, imagine if you were re-ended in night time traffic whilst you were static at a junction or something else and the offending driver / attending police (injury incident) behind you could demonstrate the lack of required illumination, (and only a hint of a get-out maybe required) there could be an insurance claim issue that ordinarily would be straight forward.
I guess it's down to an owner's own research and individual's regard for the relevant traffic law. I'm no saint but then again there are NO tests for motorcycles where I live...
