If you do have the money then id Have the bike stripped and find out the worsed that being the crankcases are damaged, there was a guy on here a while back with the same dilema if the cases are kaput then youll need a motor I see a scabby one on eBay went for 500 quid in spetember and waiting for one to turn up will be a hassle.
The part ex thing id doubt theyd give a grand(if that)not knowing whats inside the engine.
The only good news I got poo pooed a while back about XTs going up in price but prices have certainly stiffened up by some margin so its not a complete loss,as the Yanks say youve just got to suck it up all part of biking.
You have no location but if your in the midlands might have a cheaper option for you if its an engine repair or even just stripping it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm actually in Leicester. What do you suggest as a cheaper option?
I do have the money for a repair. I think a diagnostic from them would be only 100 or so anyway to dissemble and reassemble the engine.
Do you think I'm better off just letting the garage that's gonna work on it do that instead?
