Thanks for the input guys! I'll probably just do without opening the engine for now.

I've bumped into several complaints about cush drive rubbers being fragile in this model, and even though we've already inspected them and they seem to be fine, I'll still have new one's made. Here in Vietnam they can apparently make very tough ones from a forklift's tire rubber.
