DUMBASS ALERT
Well it would appear that I had the new sprocket the wrong way round!!
I took the old one off and stuck the new one on the other way around and it works fine. No catching of the bolts when I turned it by hand to check. Chain had the correct slack.
I took it out for a spin. No chain noise and no wailing noises. So fingers crossed it is all ok now!
