Interesting. Ive had a good read and Im not entirely convinced. Im open to the concept, it might work well, but there is too much ambiguity in their claims, particularly in their FAQs. For example:
Q - Does Puncturesafe cause out of balance problems?
A - No! Puncturesafe cannot create an out of balance situation. If a problem exists then Puncturesafe may aggravate the situation, which acts as a safety warning alerting the driver that there is definitely a tyre, rim and/or suspension problem.
No it cant Oh yes it does! Surely either it either does or it doesnt? If it can exacerbate a problem then equally, it can be a cause of a problem? So, both sneakily and rather cleverly, if you do get a balance problem, it isnt their fault but yours, or rather the bike! Then, somewhat spuriously, they pretend this is a built in safety feature!
In the tech section, they weirdly contradict the above by claiming it can actually help dampen an out-of-balance wheel:
An out of balance wheel rotates eccentrically, causing a dislocation of mass toward the centre of gravity, but away from the geometric centre of the wheel, producing vibration. In a well-balanced tyre, thixotropic sealant gels containing adhesion agents can dampen the occasional shudder or vibration because they are distributed by centrifugal force to the centre of gravity, causing the geometric centre and the centre of gravity to become aligned.
I'm not sure if they know whether theyre coming or going on the balance issue? Doesn't exactly instill confidence.
Their science is a little bit iffy too. The above statement referring to geometric centres and centres of gravity is odd. Dampening an out-of-balance rotating mass involves effectively moving the centre of gravity to the centre of rotation (geometric centre?) How is a gel/liquid is going to help do that when its and even film throughout (in a rotating tyre/tube)? it cant redistribute itself to one particular part of the tube/tyre to counterbalance and opposing mass? Or is it not an even film? In which case it will cause balance issues in the first place!
Let us know how you get on with it...
