So I looked up the part numbers for a new barrel and it looks like it can only be bought as a kit (ignition set, fuel tank lock, seat lock, Ecu etc) and will probably cost ninety twelve thousand pounds. I went to Yamaha and a new blank key is $100+ tax! Feck that! So, off I went to the local locksmiths. He examined my keys and said there is nothing wrong with them, they are steel and the tabs in the barrel are brass, so stands to reason they wear out first. He said for $23 he can fettle them and give them a new lease of life, hells yeah baby! So all my keys now work beautifully and my steering lock even works easily ( it was always a sticky *****). This locksmith was an old boy wizard and I asked about putting graphite lube in? He said definitely NOT! As most Moto ignitions are vertical the graphite falls to the bottom and has no where to go causing a build up which will eventually hinder the key from going all the way in. He sold me some of this

which he said will clean and lube the lock just with a few squirts a year. FWIW, if you are going to remove your ignition and clean it, just drill the heads off the sheer bolts. I tried tapping them around with a punch and chisel but those bolts are drowned in Loctite so wouldn't move. If you have a small blow torch you can heat them up to melt the Loctite then knock them around but I found drilling them easy enough

. I reassembled it all with normal bolts rather than sheer bolts as I'm not to worried about anyone nicking my old knacker, nobody's tried so far and it's been to some pretty dodgy places
