I'd also advise against a 140 for the same reason. Having tried a few 140s of various brands and IMHO they seem to offer marginally less grip off-road, and tend to wear quicker on the centre line on the road, fall into corners and may actually give rise to a reduced contact patch (unless pressure is reduced to compensate) due to the fact they are pulled in at the bead making the tyre's cross section a bit more oval.



As you increase the the ratio of tyre width to rim width the distance between C and B increases; the tyre gets more pointed/oval in cross section. Width A will also not increase proportionally either. It is for this reason that, when actually fitted to the same rim, a 140 tyre will not appear a full 10mm wider than a 130.
