Mine is 2008 too;same position as Pleiades..;can't be bothered to change it yet.

When I drain to tube I just put the excess in my chain oiler. I rode the Smugglers Trail in Andorra last weekend and at the end I had no oil in the tube upon checking....after an autoroute run from Toulouse to home I had about 1cm of oil in the tube.

Based on my experience I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ref the tube,what I would say though is to cut the tube short up to the wire holding support because if you off road regularly there's a change the rubber bung could be pulled off thus allowing dirty air into the engine.
