Planning for the Tanami Section

Due to restricted fuel stops along the Tanami we have to plan for a fuel endurance of around 600 kms. With only a 15 litre tank on the R this is always going to be challenging Naturally the 660 Tenere with 23 litres is going to be a bit better off.

So allowing for a little bit of safety margin we reckon on needing 35 litres all up ... so the old 2 litre Coke PET bottle standby isn't going to quite cut it this time !!! BrockSamoyed on the Tenere has decided on a 12 litre (liquid containment) fuel bladder whereas I'm going down the plastic jerry can route.

After looking at many options, playing around with various mounting locations and considering overall pricing I've decided to take an easy route and just carry two 10 litre containers inside the panniers - disposing of the additional load as soon as possible. A little bit of research revealed that the Super Cheap Auto (SCA) 5, 10 & 20 litre cans all share a commom footprint and fit very neatly in the bottom of my Andy Strapz Expedition Pannierz ... in fact you could almost say they were designed for each other

The only down side is that I will loose (at least temporarily) approximately half the side panniers carrying capacity. So for a period the lighter items will have to be relocated up onto the rear carrier. I'm also contemplating using 1 x 10 litre and 2 x 5 litre cans to provide the 20 litre requirement to give a bit of fuel organisation flexibilty.

Hmmm, it's not called Adventure Riding for nothing
