O2 controller is a must. Will transform tractability and broaden the range of usable power. Kev's fuelling mod will also contribute to widening the spread of power even further, particularly at the upper end of the scale (or a Power Commander if you're feeling flush!)
Blame the EU bureaucrats for that narrow power band on the XT motor - emissions regs mean it runs way too lean out the box. Get the air/fuel ratio down to the 13.6:1 and the bike will behave totally differently. (It's an asthmatic 14.7:1 in stock trim when the ECU is running in closed loop mode!)
