I read on this site that that trick also works for the 660 and takes about 30 seconds. If you stop the engine, ABS will be enabled again. I think you will find this a pain in the neck and soon grow tired of it. I had a BMW which you could switch the ABS on and off with and even pressing a button every time the engine is switched off is a pain.
As much as I'd sooner have ABS on the road, if you are really doing 50:50 I personally would not go that route. I'll be doing 70:30 road to off-road with my XTZ and I already decided to forgo the ABS based on my experience with the BMW.
ABS version has lower ground clearance too.
