Pleiades is on a distinguished road
Good to see that you put the forum to good use and you got home under your own steam.

What tends to happen if there has been corrosion and high resistance in the connector for a long period is that one or more of the pins melt. If this has happened the connector cannot be salvaged.

If you caught it in the early stages, then cleaning the pins and examining their condition could bring it back to life. However, it is very difficult to get to the pins to clean them properly and even if you do they are likely to be microscopically pitted, which will leave them prone to making poor contact and corroding again.

The cheap fix is the "Stoic Bloke mod" splicing in a reg/rec unit from an FZS600 Fazer. You should be able to pick one up off ebay relatively cheaply.

Yes it is in theory, but it will not bump if you've got a flat battery and the ECU is flagging up a fault code because it can't detect normal battery voltage (which is what happens when the reg/rec fails).
