No, it really isn't that hard. Trickiest bit is getting your hands in to remove the fuel line and electrical connectors. You can take the bars off, tie them up, then tilt the tank up to gain better access.
The first time might take a while, but you'll get quicker with practice (and when you've got a feel for where the connectors are and how they come apart).
