Thanks so much for answers. I have found out what were wrong. One of the brake pads were slightly bent out of shape and the brake pad was not in the track/slot. A little of the friction surface had also loosened and partly felt off.
But I have been able to bend the brake pad back in reasonable position and its working ok now. But it will need replacement when back in a garage.....
