Does the amount required according to the haynes manual tie up with that in the Ten user manual? - I don't know. How did you measure the amount you put in - accurately? The reason I ask is I have a measuring cylinder and its an accurate way rather than a kind of guess. Another reason I ask is that it doesn't take that much oil to take it from low to Hi on the stick so you only need to be a bit out with your quantity.
Anyway as long as you have run the engine as described by the book, remeasured and are still low, no harm in topping up.
